Swedish Snus is subtlety different to dip. It comes in portions and loose like dip. However it is used in the top lip and it does not require spitting. It is much stronger than dip sp you dont need to use so much and what juice you do get can be ingested without issues. It is a different experience but dipping an snussing are just as good as each other.

American dip is very sweet in comparison. Swedish snus is salty and more tobacco tasting. The most popular brand in Sweden is General. General have released some brands in America with more of an american flavour such as wintergreen.

My preferred snus is General Extra Strong portions. They are peppery with a citrus overtone. They are 13mg of nic so quite strong. I keep one in my lip for upto 3 hours.

My favourie loose is budget brand called 'kronan' which has a flowery taste and is 8mg but you can bake a big pris.

I prefer portions during the day when I am out an about because they are discreet. but I love to use big pinches of loose when I am at home in the evening.

I am not sure whey northerner wont ship dip in canada. Perhaps there is a license issue.


The first few time you snus it can tingle and burn your top lip. This is due to the salt content but your lip becomes used to it.

I love swedish snus the flavour is excellent.

I forgot to mention that some American companies are now selling snus, camel snus, marlboro snus etc. Stay away from these they are poor imitations of the real Swedish Snus and unfortunately is giving snus a bad name in some circles.

Thunder and Oden are newcomers to the scene and in my opinion they have not got their loose just right yet. The flavour is very subtle so is the nic hit. Becareful with it. If you are not used to the strength it can give you nic overdose before you know it.

Oden is very similar to Thunder but a slightly better flavour. Kronan is the mildest and is considered a budget brand. But has a great mild taste I like a lot.

The thing with Snus is that its all about personal choice. I really dislike Thunder but others love it. I really love any General Brand of Snus but others hate it.

But I am very suprised you have gone for the really strong stuff to start with. you will be buzzing. I got a nic buzz for about 7 weeks on snus, but like all good things your body becomes accustomed to it.

The first time i used thunder I was sick as a dog I went over the top and this coming from someone who smoke 40 marlboro's a day.

That being said I have found my balance and use about 4 or 5 portions a day. Have not needed or wanted a cigarette in over 5 months.

Snus is used in the top lip just to the left or right of your lip string. Nobody uses it on the bottom lip unless they are mistaken.

The point of snus is that you dont spit. It is designed to be kept in the lip between 10 mins to a few hours.

If you used loose snus in the bottom lip it would wash away into mud very quickly. It is quite an art to 'bake a pris' as the swedish call it. and its also an art keeping a loose portion up there for a while. It took me a month or so to get the hang of it.

I would start out on the portions. And if your tolerance to nicotine is not high then with those strong portion only keep them in for 10 or 20 mins. Otherwise you may throw up.

The idea with snus is not to get it too wet once in your mouth as a sudden rush of the flavour can be quite harsh.

Can you explain to me what is "buzzing" I mean are you loosing control of eveything or is it a pleasant happeneing?

Sorry this what happened. I came to snus from cigarettes. with cigs you troough and peak on them. With snus you get a consistent steady hit of nicotine sustained over a period. So if your not used to dip and only use smokes then you do feel light head and a bit buzzy for (in my case) a few weeks.

I then got some thunder to try an get a bigger buzz, but I used a pinch that was a horseshoe around my entire top lip. very over the top. after a about 20 mins I felt nauseous, dizzy, and sweating, palpitationsl I ran to the bathroom to spit out the snus and threw my guts up.

I am much more sensible nowadays. But if you have never uses dip or snus on a regular basis your are best to start on the weaker brands.

I started with a snus sampler pack which came with 8 brands of snus 4mg, 8mg and 10mg strengths. It came with a booklet explaining to start on the 4mg ones and work up to the 10mg.

But how it is now. if i use kronan I make big portions and can enjoy its full flavour. When I use general extra sterk loose I make half the size in a portion. so my extra sterk cans last twice a long. I also like extra sterk first thing in the morning to get me going.

hehe you can even get energy snus, it has caffeine and gurana in it. So if your late for work and rush out the house and miss your coffee have 2 of those portions and your all set.
