Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul 2

We switched from Science Diet Large Breed for Puppies to Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul Large Breed and noticed my puppy's coat was shedding a lot more than usual. He was also diagnosed with demodex mange while on Chicken Soup. With the medication from the vet and AvoDerm puppy food, the itching has stopped all together and my puppy's coat is much more shinier minus the bald spots from the demodex.

The ingredients and the price is what lead me to Chicken Soup, but it just didn't workout for my puppy.

Mange has nothing to do with the food you feed your dog. Mange is caused by mites that eat at your dog's skin. You should have been using Frontline Plus or Advantix on your pet to avoid these parasites.

Puppy mange or demodex is due to a suppress immune system and CANNOT be treated with Frontline Plus or Advantix. My puppy was on Frontline Plus when he was diagnosed. FYI. I am simply stating Chicken Soup simply wasn't enough to build a better immune system for MY puppy. Medication can be used to treat demodex (ex. ivermectin) or I have heard people using a more natural approach by switching to a better quality food and giving vitamins.

Frontline Plus will PREVENT mange, but it will not treat it. If your puppy had a suppressed immune system, it is not because of the Chicken Soup.

You are misinformed about what Frontline Plus can do. It can't prevent Demodectic mange. I think optimal nutrition has everything to do with maintaining a puppy's health and immune system. If you think Chicken Soup is the best of the best then that is fine. I'm sorry to say it isn't the best food available. If it works for you, then GOOD FOR YOU.

On a side note, if you like Chicken Soup I suggest you try the Taste of the Wild. They are made by the same people and are totally grain-free. I think it is much better than Chicken Soup and the price is comparable. I suggest you rotate your dog's kibble from time to time to provide optimal nutrition from various protein and vegetable sources. What may lack in one kibble may be given in another kibble.
