Northwest Airlines was founded in 1926 as a mail carrier and today operates over 2,600 flights daily to over 250 destinations worldwide. With the help of Northwest's travel partners, the airline is able to serve 750 destinations in over 120 countries.

I have flown Northwest precisely once, and while my experience does not match the horror show recounted by Lena, it was bad enough, and came complete with surly flight attendants, lousy food, untoward delays and massively overbooked flight. It may not be the worst North American airline (my vote is still with Continental for that) but its making a run at the title.

lol...surly is a great word to describe their flight attendants and general attitude towards customer service.

I don't think I can recall another experience where every employee was gratuitously rude and utterly uninterested in providing service. They have a lousy labor relations record, which may account for some of it, but I began to suspect they train their people to be like that.
