Chrysler Building, NYC 5

The Chrysler Building never fails to get my attention. I think I got the best available view of it while having dinner, late at night, at the Copter Club (not sure if it still exists as the Copter Club), which is (was?) located at the top of the (old?) Pan Am building. From a window seat, we were up close and nearly eye-level to the Crown Jewel of New York...lighted-up and dazzling.

As far as I can find, the Copter Club ceased operations in 1977 after a fatal helicopter crash above it.

Must have been a hell of a view though....

Yes it was...and I do remember seeing pictures a a helicopter dangling off the edge of the roof (before it came crashing down?) Thanks for the crackerjack researching, 'git...

I remember having read about the Club, and wanting to go there on an early visit to the city back in the eighties only to find it had been closed for some time. I went to the Algonquin instead.

Now there's a place to have a drink.

Not a bad option and the Algonquin has a rich, aromatic history in the woodwork that The Copter Club lacked. One of my favorite places in New York for breakfast...
