Negril, Jamaica 5

Negril is NOT for everyone, it is one of the most beautiful places on Earth, and if you have respect for another culture and the people you will not be disappointed. If you decide to act like a jerk, you'll probably and rightful be treated like one.
Jamaica in general comes in 2 flavors....resort, aka prisons with gold bars, which might as well be any ole tropical location, you get a sterile watered down version, oh yea and it'll cost 3 OR MORE times what a real experience will.
Yes, you will encounter "higglers" aka folks trying to make a buck to get by. Take a good look around you, arn't we all? the differance here is the Jamaicans are proud warm people, who honesty want to show you what they have created....can you carve a piece art from wood?

RULE #1:SHOW RESPECT, if you don't want what is offered to you, can you look someone in the eye,and repectful decline with a "NO Thanks Mon" and you give a fist bump to this stranger and say the word "respect" ? If YOU think you can manage some empathy to the host nation you are visiting then you will not have a problem in the world. Drugs are illegal, you want to dabble in that it's up to you, and yes you will be ask to buy them, see rule #1 (MORE FORCEFUL PERHAPS)

You're going there on VACATION, right? Leave your watch at the office, nothing moves on a time schedule. Who care what time it is other than say, day time n night time. Day time is a good time to get a tan, play in the water, explore etc. Night time is good to party to a live reggae band.
Eat when you get hungry, sleep when you are tired, time has stopped until you have to be back at the airport to leave to go back to reality. "Soon Come" is a phrase Jamaicans use that could be minutes hours or days.....and ya know what? It doesn't matter!!! Have Fun!

I continue to go back to Negril and find that those who have a bad time bring it on themselves, some because they are just too up tight others b/c they are stereotypical Americans, rude

Rude Americans, exactly! I actually feel ashamed to be stereotyped as an American there because so many of us are ignorant and disrespectful. Jamaicans know how to have a good time and I am a changed person due to visiting there. Yes people tried to sell me stuff but I bought some things that were very cool and cheap! I will definitely be going back! Ya mon, no problem, RESPECT!
