NIGHTMARE ON MAPLE STREET

As a six-year tenant of one of Mr. Chung's buildings, I have nothing but horror stories. It goes way beyond crappy repairs that take forever: in order to drive out long-standing rent-controlled tenants, George Chung Realty rents to a parade of criminals and mental patients.

In the six years that I've lived in my ten-unit building, five nightmare tenants have been taken away in handcuffs after disrupting the peace, threatening and in one case assaulting other tenants. In the past month alone (May 2009) the police have been called six times and there have been two arrests.

We, the law-abiding tenants have repeatedly accused Mr. Chung of deliberately seeking out a criminal element, to which he replies "Prove it."

I would strongly advise against renting anything from George Chung Realty.

That tenant they arrested for assault was a former employee of Chung's--and a mental patient.

I think he realized she was wacko and installed her in our building on purpose. She nailed her doors shut and now climbs through her kitchen window. We called the police because she was constantly and loudly hosing down the building, sometimes at three in the morning--sometimes in the rain--always in a way-too-short bathrobe. People in neighboring buildings called the cops because she had a habit of pruning other people's hedges. She frequently yells loudly at people about non-sensical things.

After her arrest, she "went away" for a month, but now she's back. She's got a new robe, but it isn't any longer.

Chung can't possibly claim ignorance of her mental state after employing her for over a year.

Chung is ignorant of a lot of things--like the laws governing property rental.

When one of his "terror tenants" broke the windows in my kitchen door, he actually wrote me a letter advising me that it was my responsibility to replace the door and to sue my violent neighbor for expenses.
