Authority 4

We just got this brand to try. I will update on how well our dogs (two 3-year old labs) take to it. People, go with a baked dog food over an extruded product. If it doesn't say baked, it is extruded. Look it up. Extruding food subjects it to temperatures over 1000 degrees!!!! This creates dangerous "side effects" to the food itself. High heat+food=bad!! You know, would you eat fried rice all day, every day (thanks Life4k9 for this illustration)? Whether or not the dog food is "organic" doesn't help much if it's an extruded product (which almost all of those brands are!). Would eating organic fried rice every day be much better than traditional fried rice? Now, would you rather eat organic fried rice or traditional baked rice? Think about it. So I will accept wheat and other things in the ingredient list, because the food is baked. Our dogs were on Avoderm Baked, which has wheat as the first ingredient, and this food was better for my labs ears than any other cooked food (organic included). Authority Harvest Baked is much cheaper than Avoderm, and the ingredient list looks even better. We have high hopes for this food, and we'll see if it delivers. But I know I'll never go back to extruded kibble again.

They did really well with the baked Lamb formula--better than any dry food ever before (including other extruded lamb formulas). With the Chicken variety, they had a lot of gas and did similarly to other dog foods, including extruded varieties. Then my one dog had an extremely bad case of diarrhea for four days...but I do not know if that was from the dog food, since the other dog did not get sick, and the one that did also rolled in something extremely nasty and unknown prior to her sickness. So she probably got sick from what she rolled in, but I thought I'd mention it, since it also happened soon after we made the switch to the chicken. So I give the baked lamb formula five stars, and the baked chicken formula three and a half stars.
