10. Dick Clark 5

American Bandstand was "Americana" for forty-seven years. For some, I guess that automatically made it a bad thing. After all this time...wow.....I am surprised to learn that all of his musical guests were mostly talentless, though somehow commercially successful.
A well-earned five stars for "America's oldest teenager".

Who said aything about his guests being talentless? I said that his show was middlebrow. It was aimed at drawing an wide audience by featuring the most popular acts of the day. I'm sure the Captain and Tenille and Peaches and Herb were very talented. But they weren't exactly groundbreaking nor have they stood the test of time.

You judged a 47 year show based solely on acts like that. Obviously, he had some bad acts on there....he also helped intorduce some of the greatest talent of the rock era.

Trivia: The Beatles were actually intorduced to American audiences- not on Ed Sullivan- but on rate a record....American Bandstand, 1963.

Well let's be fair, it was a show oriented at the top 30 hits and for everytime they might have had an act like the Public Image Ltd, there were a dozen Barry Manilow type spots.

And for the record Dick hosted for a year - 1956 - in Philly, then from 1957 to 1987 as a weekly national show. He may have kept the franchise going with specials and promos but it wasn't on regularly for 47 years.

Dick is also responsible for presenting more than just Bandstand - Dick Clark Productions gave us TV's Bloppers and Practical Jokes, the $10,000 Pyramid, Star Search, the American Music Awards. His legacy is in the line that includes PT Barnum more than it is in the line of Elvis Presley.

Again Frank...I agree with you that much of that was crapola. On balance however... you gave him two stars???
Did you think you were rating me?

C'mon, you know you are at least a 3 to me.

Yeah...but that's on the scale of 1-10.
"Vic Clark"?

What can I say, I was always a Casey Kasem guy.

Time to get back to my thread tracing Roger Moore back to the Big Bang Theory.

It all makes sense now! Roger Moore created the Big Bang conspiracy to steal jewels from Sean Connery. Damn your good Frank.

As James Bond, Roger Moore had a plethora of "big bangs".
I got it.
