2. Lucille Ball

Pioneering, peerless, and putty-faced pretty, Ball was TV's first great female comedian, a world-class physical comic. I Love Lucy's genius premise was that housewife Lucy Ricardo yearned ...

2. Lucille Ball 5

About 30 years before my time yet still easily in my top five comediennes. Maybe top three, I don't know. A lot of her act was built on slapstick and the predictable routines of trying to get on Ricky's show. Couple that with a lot of undertones of spousal abuse and it seems the show would have worn thin real quick. But it somehow managed to stay fresh and her other endeavors remained funny as well. Though admittedly not the same without Ricky.
Indeed, she was an American Icon.

There were a couple episodes.
Not as bad as the honeymooners. But real subtley stuck in there.

I didn't think Lucy was all that mean to Ricky.

I was refering more to lines like "Ricky will be me up" or "Fred will hit me."
I know it was all a joke and there was no actual abuse but they seemed to allude to it an awful lot.
Luckily, it was a comedy show and not a documentary.

It was a joke on The Honeymooners too.

I can't imagine anyone seriously believing Alice had any reason to fear Ralph.

Ditto for Lucy and Ricky or Fred and Ethel.

Now, Ike and Tina Turner was a completely different story.

Yeah the Honeymooners was a joke, I only brought it up because it seemed he said "One of these days...to the moon" in like every episode.
And yes, there are plenty of real cases of abuse to worry about that there is no need to make fuss over the imaginary ones.
