Michael Jackson 1

"King of Pop, King of Pop, King of Pop"? I can't stand hearing that over and over and over again. "moonwalk, moonwalk, moonwalk"! Ugh! From what I understand/recall, back in the day, he PAID MTV and VH-1 to FORCE them to refer to him ONLY as the "King of Pop". They weren't even allowed to use his real name. What a revolting development THAT was. Most people don't seem to realize that after a certain point, he BOUGHT his fame and stature. Oh, BTW, he also PAID someone (a lot of dough) to "come up" with that friggin "moonwalk" that he was so "famous" for. His story is that of a scam/sham artist. Most people seem to have fallen for it ALL, hook, line and sinker. Any "talent" he may have had went out the door a LONG time ago. One of the few deaths, as of late, that's left the world a better place, sorry to say, I guess.

You are completely ignorant and just spreading rumors, it is comical that you think he had to pay to be called the King of Pop, LMAO, that is so silly, you should check your facts before you speak. It's okay that you did not like him, but maybe his immense talent was over your head.

Go check your facts, pal. I have the proof somewhere in the house but I've got a LOT in this house. Ask Kurt Loder about it. You think he was happy saying "king of pop" over and over and over again? If you have old footage, you'll see very clearly that for YEARS his real name was NEVER used. Don't even get me started. Here's yet another one - that "life extending box" that he was photographed in was sent to the Enquirer and offered for "free" as long as they didn't tell the truth behind the story and they HAD to use the word "bizarre" in their headline. These stories are NOT "rumors" and they are endless and are the work not of an artist but that of a SCAM ARTIST. Wake up and smell the roses, buddy. Whose being Ignorant here? Hmmm, lemme think...

You are correct.

You people miss the point, he was called the King of Pop because he broke music records that he still holds to this day, and his unbelievable talent, that even those who don't like his type of music can respect and appreciate.

Thriller #1 selling album of all time, in over twenty years no one has beat that

He holds the record for the most #1's of one CD,

The videos he created, most of which were his ideas were the first of their kind

He has won countless grammys, video awards and all types of music awards

the list can go on and on...

AND

even after all the BS and this trial and all negative publicity that he has received about his looks and at the age of 50 HE STILL SOLD OUT 50 comeback shows in just a few hours a few weeks ago...

THAT is what makes him the King of Pop, it's all about his talent, music and his value as an entertainer and innovator! It is not just some name he bought.

Then why did they have to PAY his major outlets (in his heyday no less) to FORCE them to call him that and forbidding them to refer to him in any other way?

That is the lamest thing I have ever heard in my life, does not even make sense, he WAS THE KING OF POP, he didn't have to pay anyone, his career and musical record speaks for itself.

To prove it even further, he continues to set records in death, because he blew up the Internet with record breaking and unprecedented searches and traffic across the web and mobile interfaces:

Michael Jackson searches shut down Google for about 26 minutes on the day he died because they thought they were being attacked due to the highest volumes of searches in history.

On Yahoo the story, “Michael Jackson rushed to hospital,” received 800,000 clicks in 10 minutes, which made it its highest-clicked story ever.

Yahoo News set an all-time record with 16.4 million visitors, beating the old record of 15.1 million set last election day. The four million visitors between 3-4 pm also set an hourly record.

Twitter reported 5,000 Jackson-related tweets per minute on Thursday afternoon.

Facebook reported status updates in triple numbers on Thursday afternoon.

AOL, whose AIM messaging service was knocked offline for 40 minutes Thursday, stated “Today was a seminal moment in Internet history. We’ve never seen anything like it in terms of scope or depth.”

The massive search volumes also affected, Bing, as well as mobile communications which saw an unprecedented amount of text and communications volumes as well.

You see, someone who can elicit this kind of impact even in death, beating out the first black president election, beating out 911 is the KING, by definition. His popularity is huge, he does not have to pay anyone to call him the King of Pop, he has been the King for most of his life.

And, you can bet that most of these searches were from fans not people who hated him.

Dude, you don't have to think he is the King of Pop, you don't have to agree with the title, but by definition of his music artist record and his huge popularity he is the KING OF POP, if he had to pay for that title, then it would be logical to deduct that he would also have had to pay all those searchers and all those that sold out his concerts every single time, and the 100 Million+ people who bought his best selling album Thriller, these things occurred because he is so popular and so loved for his music, which again makes him the KING OF POP!

There's no business like show business...

@fitman
That's for sure, and especially in the US, where we are obsessed with celebrities.

Okay, so it was a "promotional" device to pay to FORCE the media to call him the "King Of Pop". And maybe that device was one of his major innovations. But don't try and deny that this silly sounding moniker wasn't bought and paid for very early on.
