Payless Car Rental
1
First, the guy at the counter tried to get me to upgrade from the car I'd reseved on-line for $15 a day for 8 days. I know from reviewing on-line, the difference wasn't even close to that. He said it would pay off in better gas mileage. I didn't pay $120 in gas for my whole trip.
But the real crap came when I had a problem. We got the road-side assistance and declined their special collision protection. We drove to San Diego and got a flat tire. When I called their RSA number, I was told that I would have to change the tire myself, go somewhere to get it fixed, pay for it, and they would reimburse me when I got back. After doing all that, Firestone couldn't fix it because there was a staple close to the crown. The tire had to be replaced. The manager at Firestone assured me this would be no problem, he had done the same with numerous other rent-a-car companies. But Payless refused to pay for the new tire, claiming it was my responsibility. They said if I had payed for the collision policy it would have been covered, but since I didn't and I had collided with a staple, I had to pay. The guy at Firestone was stunned. He does a lot of work for rental car companies and he assured me no other company would have stiffed me like this.
When I brought the car back to Las Vegas and complained, I was just treated rudely and dismissed. I even had to fill out an accident report. They did refund the cost of the RSA which amounted to about half the cost of the tire. Needless to say, I'm telling everyone I know to stay away from this company.
