Milk

reviewed by fitman

Academy Award winner Sean Penn stars in this fact-based drama about Harvey Milk, the openly gay activist and San Francisco politician who was murdered along with mayor George Moscone (Victor Garber) by disgruntled city employee Dan White (Josh Brolin) in 1978. Director Gus Van Sant's compelling biopic co-stars Emile Hirsch, James Franco and Diego Luna.

Milk 4

A pretty good film, and if you'd never met Harvey Milk, you can be excused for believing Sean Penn captured his personality.

Whether he captured it or not, it is still a damn fine performance.

I think Penn played to stereotype in many scenes. I wasn't impressed.

So be it. Interestingly, several of my gay activist friends thought he wasn't stereotypical enough.

I suspect they didn't know Harvey.

That isn't the point.

It's the point I'm making.

Harvey wasn't stereotypical.

Penn's performance was.

Still, it's a decent movie... just slightly flawed like most Hollywood product.

I think the point that Fitman is trying to make is that he met / knew Harvey Milk. That's cool Fit! My nephew goes to Harvey Milk Elementary School.

Yes, that is cool. Perhaps you'd be good enough to write a review of Harvey Milk's impact, or life, or whatever seems most appropriate to you, fit.

In other news, I once met Julius Erving. My friend's prom date was from out of town and was staying at the Ervings. Turquoise Erving was very gracious, and offered me some orange juice. *Supposedly* when Dr. J heard later that I was an all Philadelphia bball player, he said "if I had known, i would have shot around with him."

Yes, I dropped the ball by not speaking up.
