Orijen 4

I just started my dog on Orijen after researching online. She has previously eaten TOTW and Wellness Core. She seems to love it. My only concern is that I noticed zea mays listed on the ingredient list. Zea mays is just the scientific name for corn. Why would a grain free dog food contain corn (technically a grain) and why would it be listed under its scientific name? I emailed Orijen's customer service about this hoping for an explanation. Thoughts?

Zea is not corn, it's the fibre that covers the corn. It's actually good from a herbal medicine point of view. I am Asian and very often we use zea to make soup. It will balance the internal health, especially during the summer hot month.

Actually, Orijen has made a formula change recently and zea mays is no longer in the food. I'm guessing you still have the old formula.
