Clark Gable

The better-written the book, the clearer the picture in your head of how a certain character looks, acts, and carries himself. "Gone With the Wind" was a pretty well-written book, so I had some very concrete images in my head.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that Clark Gable (whom I'd never seen until I saw "Gone With the Wind" a week ago) was the epitome of Rhett Butler's character, as I perceived it to be when I read the book. He could have walked right out of my head and onto the TV screen. As something much more than your everyday rebel without a cause, Rhett Butler's could not have been an easy role to master. But Gable did it.
Mammy was the only other character in the movie that fit the description I had in my mind's eye.
