Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) reprimands a brigadier general for calling her "ma'am." 1

I'm going to swim against the tide here.

The general was addressing the male senators in in the room as "Senator".
The general was addressing Boxer as "ma'am."

That seems like bullshit to me -- good for her for standing up for herself.
Significant? Hardly.

I think what she said was a little ego-centric. But really what do you expect from politicians? Most of them think that the world starts and ends with them.

Titles don't really matter at the end of the day. At least the General was being respectful to her. She should have taken it as such and left it at that!

It does cast it a bit differently, though. You'd think he would either do 'sir'/'ma'am or 'senator'. The former is military protocol, btw.
But I agree with Abichara......and she betrayed a huge insecurity by making an issue of it.

I think she noticed she'd been slighted (given the fact that the General hadn't called male senators, "Sir"), and over-reacted.

Big f'n deal.

Abichara, you may be right that she should have just been quiet and taken it. But my guess is that you don't get to be a senator by following that impulse very often. Especially if you're a woman.
