Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska before finishing Term

reviewed by GenghisTheHun

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) announced this afternoon she will resign from office on July 26 and return to private life, a stunning decision by last year's Republican vice presidential candidate to leave office before the end of her first term."

Sarah Palin Resigns as Governor of Alaska before finishing Term 3

I will reluctantly mark this as a three "significant" due to the fact that she was the vice presidential pick. But we have to face facts, oh ye learned members of the RIA. She is extremely attractive, feisty and all that. Unfortunately, though "the stream is wide, it is not very deep." I hope I am close to the original cliche.

She appears to be a little on the weird side. This ends any hope that she has for any higher office.

Were I a GOP strategist, I would feel some alarm at the continued drum beating in her support. The "media hatchet-job" spin only goes so far. Part of a politician's job is to stand up to and deal with the media, "hatchet job" or no, and in this she proved, and is still proving to be singularly inept. When one looks at the material released by her camp, the stuff over which she or her people had absolute control, the weirdness you mention is clearly evident.

While I tend to agree that this ends her hopes of higher office, (if she has such aspirations it is easily the most idiotic tactical move in the recent history of electoral politics) I'm not sure her supporters agree. The GOP really needs to find some spokespeople that seem fresh, without seeming erratic.

Yes, I think erratic is the word that best describes Palin. She does have some positive political traits; she's attractive, has personality and charisma, but the constant victim role vis-a-vis the media and her opponents is getting old. Additionally she seems to act impulsively at times and many of her public pronouncements make absolutely no sense whatsoever. She rambles too much, trying to justify herself.

I think that she's out of her league here. She's a good person no doubt, but the Presidency?? Come on! I don't really care for Obama either, but the Republicans would be nuts to nominate her. One of the big polling firms came out with a new poll last week showing Palin in second place for the nomination, trailing front-runner Mitt Romney by only 5 points. And this was after she resigned, so it had little impact in the minds of GOP voters.

It's early on though--3 years in politics is an eternity. Palin might very well fade in the meantime.
