Capella University 3

Sounds like a recent reviewer (mabby) needs to do some anger management work. FYI I have helped a half dozen "Capella" students finish their thesis and graduate, so I DO know something about Capella, although not from the vantage point of a student. You might also note that 50% of PhD students fail to finish the thesis because the process is so overwhelming. I am willing to wage that the non-completion rate is higher for Capella (or any distance education)students. But I am sure you know that since you are a self-proclaimed genius and ... oh yeah, the 1986 Scripps National Spelling Bee winner ... LOL

You are mistaken on one part - the University of Capella DOES hire it's alumni to teach. My dissertation advisor is but one example. He graduated with a PhD from Capella and is both mentoring and teaching for the university.

I was also curios about this and contacted Capella's Human resources to inquire about it. Here is their reply:

Thank you for your inquiry. The practice of limiting one's own students or graduates is common in all higher education institutions, with the goal of maximizing diversity of thought and faculty within the university. Hiring too many faculty with the same academic training can limit diverse viewpoints and can compromise this goal.

This in no way is a reflection on the confidence we have in our learners or our programs. We presently employ Capella graduates as Core and Adjunct faculty members throughout the University-- we unfortunately have reached the percentage limits in each of our schools. This percentage will change as our faculty population grows, so we hope to see increased flexibility over time. Unfortunately though, we do not foresee opportunities for current students or graduates in the immediate future.

Thank you again for your inquiry and best wishes in your educational and career pursuits!

Sincerely,

Capella University

Seriously? You are a self proclaimed Harvard and Cornell grad, yet cannot correctly spell the name of Capella University? You are writing a review about a university you know nothing about.... all I see is a long winded ad from someone trying to strum up business.
