May is usually a month you can count on to be fairly mild, a little drizzly but mostly very pleasant in many areas of the US. Where I live, May is the month when you start to think seriously about gardening and lawn care issues. Mother's Day, Memorial Day and the Indianapolis 500 Race all happen in May. Many schools also let out in May and ecstatic smiles can be seen on the faces of newly liberated children as well as teachers who are more than ready to take a breather. The woods, with their new leaves, sprouting grass and wildflowers still retain the soft pastel tints that began in April. Kittens and new lambs are born at the same time tornados become a nightmarish threat. Overall, May is a month of new birth - fairly gentle, but not without some very dazzling contrasts.
