Regions Bank
1
Every time I call Regions "customer service" to find out what their policies regarding in which order they process items I get a different story. But each time they do, one thing remains the same - in each instance, the order they process items on my account will always benefit them and always penalize me with fees.
There have been some times where I did not do my math correctly, and I have gotten overdraft fees, and I hate it, but that's how things work and I accept them. But in the last year, Regions has become shadier and shadier and less transparent in their banking practices, especially regarding online banking (as many people on here have stated). When you check your balance, there are two balances - a ledger balance and an available balance. One may be positive, reflecting pending deposits, etc., while the other is negative. The biggest problem with this system is that they will charge you an overdraft fee for a pending electronic transaction, even before it leaves pending status and clears your account. And they will come up with any excuse in the book as to why that is their "policy." I've even been charged overdraft fees on pending transactions, then a deposit went through before the transaction cleared that put the account in positive status that covered the transaction, then the transaction cleared AFTER the deposit, and they refused to remove the overdraft fee. That's just unethical.
I started banking with Union Planters over 10 years ago, and I never had any issues with them - they were always fair and listened to me if I had a problem, which was rare. Regions doesn't seem to care at all. I have paid my last $35 overdraft fee to Regions, and I am going to take my money to Chase this week, leave my Regions account open for a month, until I get my checks, check card, and all new account holds removed from the Chase account, and then I am closing the Regions account. And frankly, the number of Regions branches keeps dwindling anyway, so it's next to impossible to find one to actually do my business, so I am going to opt for convenience and fairness.
