Blue Buffalo Dog Food 3

I'm a big promoter of natural foods. I got started on it because one of my dogs has a corn/by-product allergy and stuck with it because I was impressed with the difference I saw in the dogs' coat/shedding/pooping. I run a small pit bull rescue and try to feed the dogs the best food that I can afford. I tried BB lamb & rice because a) it seemed like a good food and b) it was on sale. The dogs eat all of it enthusiastically, but then again, anyone who knows pit bulls knows that they will eat just about anything (my game-bred foster female eats bugs). Their coats are still sleek and shiny and they shed very little. However, they have been having the worst gas I have ever encountered. I know bull-dogs are prone to flatulence, but I swear I can SEE the gas clouds! Also, my 2 year-old 65lb male has been experiencing some vomiting and loose stools. I suspect it may be a reaction to the lamb since previously the foods I was feeding were chicken, duck or venison protein based, but I am not going to blame BB since I don't know for sure. I believe that BB is good enough to give it a shot, and if it works, stick with it. If it doesn't work for your dog, try something else. I work at a large chain pet store and we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee on pet food... if the dog doesn't like it or doesn't do well on it, take it back and try something else.

Maybe they eat too enthusiastically. Dogs who gulp their food take in lots of air which causes flatulence. Try putting a rock in the bowl or get a bowl with a raised center to keep them from eating too fast. If you are feeding once a day, cut the food in half and feed twice a day. Overfeeding can also cause flatulence. If you are feeding the same amount of BB as the lower grade food you switched from it it too much. Cut out the treats and table scraps if any. Add a spoonful of plain yogurt. Make sure he gets plenty of exercise.

They aren't gulping their food down. They are just eager to eat and like the taste. The food is divided into 2 small feedings daily. I wouldn't say that the food I was feeding before trying BB was low grade... it was Wellness Super5 Mix Chicken mixed with Nature's Recipe Venison and Rice. Their treats primarily consist of raw carrots, apple slices, chicken, lettuce, eggs, and yogurt. I think they're just gassy bull-dogs :)

Its funny to me how everyone is so "protective" of this dog food. I believe that BB is great food, but it doesn't work for every dog. My min pin does great on it, my lab mix puppy- not so much. I just find it humorous when people seem to get on their soap boxes defending the food. If the brand was giving your dogs pudding poop and horrible gas, you know you would switch foods also.
