Eliminate "Most Helpful Reviewers" List

reviewed by twansalem

Quite a few people have citized this feature of RIA for isolating too many people and just being useless in general? Should it be eliminated?

Eliminate "Most Helpful Reviewers" List 1

I guess it has its problems, but I generally like the "Most Helpful Reviewers" list.

When things are slow on the site, it seems like all it takes to get you on that list is one or two helpfuls. So if someone reads a review left by a hit and run review artist from over a year ago, and gives them a helpful, it stands to reason that if there aren't 10 other people with more than 1 helpful vote in the last few hours (I'm not sure on the time duration of that list, but it appears to be greater than a couple of hours, but less than a full day.), then that reviewer will show up on the list.

It could be someone playing games with the system, but I think it's probably just an indication of a slow day on the site.

Now when it's a regular reviewer staying at the top of the list when they haven't even posted in a couple days, that could be several things. Some people, including myself, will occasionally go to one of their favorite reviewers' page, and read about 40 or 50 of their last reviews, giving out a few helpfuls and agrees along the way. No cheating going one here, but it can easily rocket an inactive reviewer to the top of the list. Of course it could also be one of their friends just trying to keep them at the top, voting helpful and agree on all of their stuff.

I believe we roll it over at some early morning hour and start anew, so it's easy to get on the sidebar list with one vote early in the day.
