Ansel Adams 5

Adams is justly famous for his majestic landscapes, one example of which can been seen in the item description. His use of light and shadow always has a kind of film-noir feel to it, in my opinion, even when its of some spectacular mountain peak or other geographical feature.

Still adding descriptions for some of these photographers, then onto reviewing them all!

You're right. For some reason I often get Weston and Adams confused.

Perhaps their shared ability to photograph stunning and dramatic landscapes.

Man, looking through their work reminds me how much I miss getting my hands dirty in the darkroom making black and white photographs emerge from blank sheets of paper. As much as I love digital, occasionally I feel a twinge that there's something missing from a lot of contemporary photography now that careful in-camera framing has been superseded by taking an infinite number of shots and fixing the best one in photoshop. :|

To me, its like the diffence between art and mechanics.

hah...excellent analogy.

While my digital is broken I should find a darkroom that rents space to reclaim some of what I've lost in the past 4 years. I think both technologies can coexist, but I've never had a digital camera powerful enough to fully realize what I took for granted on my film SLR. I went from playing with everything from depth of field to exposure length to just playing with extra-fussy in-camera light meters. So sad :(
