The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy 3

Ahhh, the first adaptation of the late Douglas Adams' work. It's a great, fun book but I was not overly impressed by the TV series. I think it's possible that because I didn't see this in the 80's, I only saw some of this in recent years, that I've not been overly impressed by it. There were quite a few decent TV series made in England during the 80's that did stand the test of time but I don't think this was one of them. His books however are another story - a great read.

Though to be fair, one TV series I remember, Knightmare didn't stand up to the test of time either and that was one I really enjoyed in the 80s! Spellcasting C, R, A, P.

I did see it in the 1980's, probably not on first run but soon thereafter on Canadian television and in fairness to it's quality I think it was supposed to be a bit cheesy even back then. It had a low budget kitsch to it that was part of the fun. Kind of like Red Dwarf.

I like Red Dwarf, rewatched all the episodes the week before the new ones were released earlier in the year... can't wait for the new series currently being penned!

Cheese of course is probably Britain's greatest gift to the world. The BBC adaptation would have been clunky and of course now looks positively dated, but then that's kinda part of its charm. Don't get me started on Red Dwarf...

My favorite dramatic edition of this fantastic book remains the original, unabridged audiobook read by Douglas Adams himself. In this case, nothing on screen (I've seen all film and television incarnations) quite lives up to the images my mind conjured up when hearing his enthusiastic reading of his own book :)
