I think New Year's Eve is an awful holiday on a number of levels. The most obvious is that it's used as an excuse for people to go out and drink too much. Talking to drunks at parties and bars is not high on my list of things I like to do, and I certainly don't appreciate driving home on the same (often icy) roads with party animals. New Year's Eve parties and events are almost always really crowded, noisy, and chaotic, which is a drag. Throw in the whole nostalgia thing and the fact that you have to stay up at least until midnight (that really does me in these days), and the holiday goes down the toilet as far as I'm concerned. If I had to eliminate one holiday, New Year's Eve would be it.
