I hate the music of West Side Story. It gets stuck in my head, and I don't even like it, so that makes me mad! Why do people fawn all over Sondheim? His lyrics seem trite to me--sometimes the words he uses to rhyme are so elementary--"got a rocket in your pocket, keep cooly-cool boy": where did that come from? A fifth grader's poem? What the heck does that mean? It sounds like he wrote them in two seconds, using whatever words came to mind first.
