One of the best attractions in Spain, this museum houses some of the most incredible works of art in the world; I went in the summer of 1998, so I'm basing my rating on that. Definately for anyone who likes art or art history, experiencing "The Third of May" and "Las Meninas" is so much more fulfilling than just seeing it in the books! The area is beautiful, and if you like art museums, this is definately an experience that won't be forgotten! If you don't like museums, specifically art museums, obviously this is not for you (and, might I add, if you haven't been to the museum, and don't know what's in there, don't rate it! Don't rate an entire system based off one bad experience in one isolated museum; that's ignorance in pure form. Thank you.). If you have young children who can't hold an interest in the material, you may want to consider going on your own, there's a lot to look at. Photography, at least when I went, was strictly not allowed, so as to preserve the integrity of the art (constant flashes of light do degrade the painting, albeit slowly). Comfortable shoes are suggested.
