Marriotts are known for being a reliable, you-know-what-you're-gonna get chain. However, Marriott has to be one of the most inconsistent chains I have ever stayed with. The service levels at these properties are what is mainly the same time and time again. It's the actual physical condition of these properties that flucuates. Some Marriotts are stellar, modern buildings (San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina, JW Marriott Cancun, Marriott South Beach in Miami), while others (San Ramon Marriott in California, Norwalk Marriott in California) are incredibly run-down and antiquated. The key is to do research on the exact property you are planning on staying at. Marriott is a great chain, and you really can't go too wrong with them. Plus, they have properties almost anywhere in the world and with all types to fit your needs - from the limited service properties (Courtyards, Residence Inns), to the mainline hotels (Marriott), to the upscale resorts (JW Marriott).
