Bob Gain was the first SEC player to win the Outland Trophy. In Gain's four years for the Wildcats, UK went 33-10-2. Against national champion Oklahoma in the 1951 Orange Bowl, the 11-1 Wildcats stunned the Sooners stopping their 31 game winning streak. Gain, along with unheralded Walt Yowarsky repeatedly destroyed the Oklahoma backfield and ruining play after play. Gain also added an extra point as their team's placekicker.
