In my opinion and personal tastes, drums and percussion are strictly for background and support. For this reason I generally dislike drum solos. Because of this, drums cannot be the best instrument as they simply cannot carry the music alone.

04/08/2008		Truly. IMO most solos--any instrument--have no more appeal than a big green bag full of wicked rifs dragged out to the curb.
