During my 3 years at University we covered this language for 2 semesters and seemed to provide a foundation to later teach C++. At the time I really didn't like the language much though I have a feeling it was partly down to the way it was taught. These days it doesn't bother me a great deal and it's an OK language if you've got a good reason to use it (since it is cross platform and can be used to create Applets after all). Most of what Java was once used for on the web is now done using Flash, Silverlight, or AIR - this is now primarily for creating cross-platform desktop apps it seems.

I don't understand why, but I was actually quite good at Haskell at University - it was the language we did for one semester when learning about functional programming languages.

What's great about this language is that despite it's abstractness it is actually quite simple and in some ways is very methodical and mathematical in style.

My experience with C was very brief and basically lasted the same amount of time it took to learn the contents of Sam's Learn C in 24 hours book. It seemed a nice language and set me up pretty well for several years later when I learnt C++ but at the time I had no real need for the language so soon ditched it.

If you interested in learning a C style language then depending on your intent C++ or Cocoa may be better. If you want to do ASP.NET based development, then obviously your choice should be C#.NET but it's not worth wasting your time with C these days. Some people don't rate C++ any more but it's still a good language and it's ability to create OpenGL across different platforms is a really great ability.

Delphi is not a language in itself, it is Borland's IDE for creating Pascal applications that are both Window and terminal based. This was pretty much the second language I learnt after BASIC and was very short lived. The only application I got close to finishing in this language was one called "Wildlife in Britain" which was a second attempt at writing a wildlife application after a previous attempt for DOS never quite got finished.

I was never a fan of the language and soon moved on to C.

Ajax is not a programming language, nor does it stand for "Asynchronous JavaScript and XML" as some people say. The first person to actually refer to the use of JavaScript in this way claims it should just be called Ajax. I have always like to believe it does stand for that though as it then validates having another acronym (AJAH) for requests to HTML pages.

The first time I encountered Ajax was at a Carson Workshop session with Thomas Fuchs in London and it was amazing to see just what was possible with existing technology. The idea of Ajax is that it makes a connection to a page, service or other which is capable of accepting GET or POST requests and then uses this to make live server-side interactions without refreshing the page. This method also allows updates to take place by using content from the response text.

The advent of actually naming this method has caused a whole new wave of design patterns across the net which have in some cases enriched the users experience, yet in others have just used it for the sake of it. One common problem some sites have is that they don't degrade gracefully - if JavaScript is disabled they cease to function, and many developers and accessibility guru's consider this to be bad. Whilst on the subject of accessibility major site owners should be aware of accessibility laws in their country and should make sure that their site is still functional to people who use screen readers. In the UK for example the law states they must be accessible, and sites hosted here can end up with a hefty fine when they are not. In actuality I don't believe there have yet been any examples of court cases based on this, but it is something keen Ajax advocates should be aware of.

Personally I'm quite fond of Ajax and have used it extensively on many projects and have posted articles on the topic. It's always interesting to see what new ways people can come up with for using it.

BASIC is the first language I ever learnt, back on the Spectrum during the 80's around the age of 6 or 7 (so around 1989/90 :P). By the time I was at high school I was used to the BASIC on several different machines including the BBC and Amstrad, and I think it is for this reason I will always have some residual fondness for it despite I've long since moved on. The name BASIC stands for Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code which is why for a long time it has been a way of introducing people to programming as it is a fairly high level language (which means it is closer to English than a low level language such as Assembly). These days I think a lot of people are introduced more directly with JavaScript, PHP or sometimes even Microsoft's VisualBasic.NET which does have some left overs from it's ancient beginnings.

Quick note for people. The Jmicron SATA drivers on this board DO NOT like Raid 0. If you use the JM ports and a raid 0 you will get blue screen repeatably untill eventually the board will die. If you are going to use a raid 0 make sure to use the microsoft SATA ports. This is not fixed with bios updates. I've tried to get the jmicron ports to work with a raid 0 for the past year or so and they just won't (I've had the board since i7 release).

Multiple bios updates, jmicron updates, board tweeks, and nothing. Sorry, but I can't recommend this board for a serious rig, this is a huge problem.

I tend to like some of the old standard classics: mostly from the '30s on through my growing-up years (the '80s). Most of the newer cartoons on TV do nothing for me. That necktie-wearing sponge is a bit silly for my taste.

So, maybe I might be somewhat nerdy. My fellow reviewers can judge for themselves. :-)

sadly i m from South America and i can't be sending back this product, the motherboard at first got a veeeery slow booting, it said detecting IDE drives, for like 30 sec, then one more time another 30sec, then it did boot, i had the chance to install the OS restarted and then it didn't boot ever again, the IDE port was magically burnt, i tried with different ide drives and configuration slave cs mstr, etc etc and nothing, then bought some SATA drives and they booted but as slow as the first time, still working on it, working on the bios, but soo far nothing... even some modifications at the Bios don't let me get back to the bios, the mobo gets freeze while searching for IDE drives even if the ones i got plugged are sata. i don't' even bother asking for refund because just sending the mobo back to US is the same cost as buying a new one. probably a good mobo unless you don't have as bad luck as i.

2 days later, i got 2 sata drives, one dvd burner sata, and a 160gb sata HDD, i did turn the IDE/SATA off on the bios, and the mobo finally booted fast and without mayor problems, i will run some tests to see if there is any problem on the reading or writting in both drives, will post soon the results if any of you have this problem feel free to contact me.
i would rate this item now up to 3 stars the thing is that i cant edit that rate....
