I was in a hurricane once, and that this is enough. I was in Hawaii, of all places, in the early 1980's. That was the storm that devastated Kauai.

Can be dangerous, but they usually give warning for those who live near an active one.

Can be very devastating. Proceed with caution.

Was in a mild one once, but it was scary enough for me. I would hate to be in one like Katrina or worse.

When I moved to Florida's east coast a few years ago, locals assured me the area never got hurricanes. We almost immediately enjoyed three.

Roofers are still hoping for another.

I have seen one funnel cloud on the ground hopping along and destroying buildings in a small city in the Midwest. I was on the road when another tornado came through and had to pull over. The wind driven hail knocked holes in our car's radiator!

We have very few tornadoes here in Tennessee but I do know how deadly they can be. They are so powerful that they can make straw go through telephone poles. I've seen pictures of this. I consider myself very lucky to never have seen a tornado.

I live in a temperate rainforest. I hate rain. I should move. My problem is that I hate cold even more, and any move within my country (Canada, for those of you keeping score at home) means frigid winters.

A lot of people don't like rain but I do. I enjoy hearing it hit the roof.

It's neither natural nor is it a gift from heaven. It's an entirely human-made social relationship that clearly is not for everyone. It has been created, thrived and survived because it has been adaptable in it's form to recognize things like joint property rights, the recognition of women as persons before the law, polygamy, same sex relationships (is that husband and wife really? You decide for yourself) and that there are circumstances where an orderly dissolution of the relationship is best for all parties involved.

Oh and there's something about love and getting along with one another that has some part in the whole equation too.
