AIU is a great school for students who are mature and have discipline. If you are the typical Gen X/Y slacker, this school is not for you. Yes the University is expensive but they provide concierge service. Everything is done for you administratively and all books & software are included in the tuition. Frankly, as I read some of these negative reviews the common theme is the whiner "they didn't do everything for me and I actually was expected to put forth effort" routine. If you can't do the required work without having a professor hold your hand, AIU is not for you. I completed my undergraduate at a traditional school. The university expects graduate students to be self motivated and if you are you will succeed, if not you will fail. I would venture that anyone who can not do well at AIU will likely not do well elsewhere... or in life.

The previous posters are correct, but for the wrong reasons. UIUC is not a public school Ivy- its engineering program actually blows the Ivy Leagues out of the water according to US News and World Reports and has a lot of program directors at Stanford and MIT very nervous about their own rankings.

UIUC is also strong in the hard sciences, math, and actuarial science. Its accounting program is currently beating Wharton's (and the other Ivies).

I don't know what the earlier poster was talking about when he mentioned grade inflation. Engineering and Math courses typically curve to a C+/B- average. If you graduate with a 3.5 GPA from UIUC in Math or Engineering, that's a pretty impressive accomplishment.

I am almost done with my BBA at JIU. The experience is fantastic! I transferred from Grand Canyon, and it was the best decision I could have made. I haven't experienced any of the issues at JIU that I did at GCU. My advisors know me, and it's easy to ask questions. The curriculum is challenging, especially compared to other online schools. However, the time commitment is still less than it was at the other school.

I plan to get my MBA there as soon as I graduate in the spring. If you have thought about other online schools, save the time. My sister is in their master's of education program and loves it as much as I do! She also transferred from GCU (and took me with her).

If you are thinking about taking an on-line course at the University of Phoenix...forget it! The University hires third rate teachers who have little college teaching experience and at times nothing more than a master's degree. Most importantly, their on-line classes lack any substance and pale in comparison with real college or university courses. Sure you can get a passing grade, but if you really want to be able to learn and apply skills and knowledge needed in a professional world, choose another school. You are waiting your time and money by taking courses at the University of Phoenix.

I have attended (4) online institutions. I would rate Aspen University to be one of the best. The instructors input was excellent. The current president even teaches classes. And he is very serious about his/your work product. I have nothing bad to say about them. The interaction could be better, but hey its online isn't it?

In July 2009, the University of Illinois launched a salary freeze for administrators, faculty and other academic professionals without considering how much a person earns in a year, or whether the salary is from university or some outside funding or grants. More than 65 administratives in the University of Illinois each make $200,000 to more than $450,000 annually. Since they make big sum of money in a year, the freezing doesn't hurt them at all. The president of the University at Urbana makes $450,000 annually.

Considering a Masters in Gerontology Counseling.

I've read good and bad on the Internet about the Breyer State program. The accreditation and the claims of it being a diploma mill concerns me, but despite this I am still considering it. The cost factor and the comparison of course materials to other universities with like programs, makes it very appealing still.

What concerns me the most is that it is a self-paced program. Is there any structure to each class where you have timeframes in mind of when reading and other assignments must be completed?

I have to have an online school and that offers a variety of classes in the study of the elderly and in wellness. Breyer's seems to offer more courses of interest that can provide me with the education that I seek. The cost is a 1/3 of what other programs are charging, and I just can't see a big difference in course curriculum from Breyer to other schools.

I want the education. I'm not looking to impress an employer, infact, I'm really hoping to be able to start a counseling service on Geriatric Care Management eventally (not a regulated profession in my state). I'd like to ensure that I at least possess the necessary knowledge to provide effective counseling, and to provide seniors with resources within my scope of understanding.

I think Breyer State will work just fine for me without causing any financial hardship.

If anyone has taken the Master in Gerontology Counseling program, I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks, Teri

I am taking my second class at the UOP for MBA program, and I really enjoy it. The program is very interesting; however, requires a lot of work. I do homework 4-5 days a week. Taking one class at a time is very convenient, and I've been getting all As, but most importantly, I've learned a lot since I've been there. BTW, I only take ground classes, not online, I guess, I like having real classmates. Very decent school, my undergrad is from Cleveland State University.

GMU Engineering is really, really bad. In general, the professors teach you nothing and expect a lot in return. They claim that they are against cheating but turn a blind eye when half the class cheats - so that the students that actually care to learn are punished for being honorable when the professor curves and all the cheating imbeciles pass through the classes. Basic rule of thumb: if you graduate from GMU Engineering: you probably cheated.
The university itself is a pretty nice place but if you actually want to learn something from a good, encouraging professor, I strongly recommend to not come here. You will only spend lots of money retaking classes unless you work very, very hard and have lots of free time to kill. How do I know GMU engineering is bad? I did well in all my other classes [including levels of advanced physics and calculus (I, II, III, and IV)] but as soon as I enrolled in the uppers levels of ECE courses, I started having trouble in class.
Best of luck to all students unfortunate enough to be enrolled in GMU engineering, and warnings to those that are considering it!!!

I am 24 years old and currently attending UOP. I'm 4 classes away from my BS (FYI BS=bachelor's of science, not bull sh*t). I'm taking two classes at a time, so that I can finish early, and I also work full time. If you've ever spent any legnth of time with UOP then you know that regimen is pretty hard.

Now, If you read any of these negative reviews you will notice that most of them highlight problems with their financial aid. UOP gives every student ample information about financial aid and how it works. If you are a prospective student then I invite you to email your enrollment counselor this web-page and have them explain why these people are disgruntled and go over your concerns in detail.

My honest and true experience with UOP is one of enlightenment and freedom. If you think that you will go to another university and never have a bad class or teacher then you are out of your mind. I've done both and honestly the quality of education from UOP is much higher than most other universities out there. You will be hard pressed to find another educational establishment that will require discipline, responsibility and most importantly participation. I won't lie, there are some very dumb people that attend UOP but there are also, some very talented and smart ones too. Again, the same can be said about a brick and mortar school except you won't have to smell the Suavtel of the gangster behind you or be distracted by the jock football players acting too cool for school. However, if that is what you seek then by all means...

There are some AMAZING teachers that work for UOP and all of them have extensive backgrounds in the field and very high degrees. The bottom line is that UOP is actually very challenging and worth every penny.

I got my AA with Axia and I was able to finish while traveling 7 countries in 6 months. Now I am able to get my Bachelors in just over a year because I'm taking double the workload. For those of you who think it's too easy the program was designed for working adults. So, if you've got time on your hands then try doing double the workload and see if you think UOP is easy.

What really irks me is when people can give these horrible ratings after only attending one class and not paying attention to the details. Seriously, if you've come here to do research you will find nothing here besides uneducated responses from amazingly ignorant people. Good luck with your education.

I want to say that before I attended UOP I read reviews like this from another site and I still chose to continue, and I'm sooo happy I did because now I'm about to get my degree and move on with my life. Make sure you really read the negative responses because you will notice that they make no sense at all and most of them are malicious because they are frustrated by their own shitty life decisions.I'm just going to stop now because I could write about this forever. Phew! Thanks for actually reading all of it!
