Folks who have lived in NYC - where you'd see characters like this every day - are probably more likely to find it entertaining.

Bender is an odd sort of hero of mine despite his alcoholism and rampant kleptomania. I also rather enjoy the antics of Dr. Zoidberg and Nibbler.

I always thought this show sucked. I just don't get how its funny. If I wanted to see neurotic idiots babble, I'd go to a family reunion.

UPDATE: Oh, I guess my brain is somehow not up to snuff for this kind of genius. My bad...

The best. Ever. The writing was brilliant (best I have ever seen), the casting was amazing (especially for the minor characters like Newman, Bania, and J. Peterman), and the acting was great overall. What else do you want?

For the people that give reviews more than "It sucked", I have found that people generally give one of a few responses. Here are my responses to those:

1. "I never got into it." For the most part this means you watched a part of an episode without much thought, never bothering to absorb the ideas and critiques that were being discussed. Yes, a majority of the show is spent discussing trivial issues at the coffee shop or Jerry's apartment, but that does not make it boring except to those that have an ADHD-like need for action. The subtleties to the comedy and characters make the show great.

2. "The characters were unlikeable/detestable/crude/etc." That's the point. Every other sitcom at the time had characters with a ridiculous lack of flaws, and Seinfeld went the opposite way. It showed people that had taken their obsessions and neuroses a little too far, and that is what drove the show. The need for likeable characters shows how viewers had been trained to seek out these types in their shows, creating the mass followings for much worse shows like Friends.

3. "It just wasn't funny." Seinfeld did have a very specific sense of humor, one that lent itself to the educated and well-informed. Many jokes were made using foreign political figures or significant issues of the time. For those lacking this type of knowledge I can see why the show appeared "unfunny". The show was also based upon being clever and quick-witted, different from many shows that relied upon overt punchlines or characters being too stupid to handle even basic social interaction (see: Friends).

I will always hold Seinfeld in the highest of regards. I hope their episodes air on television for many more years and as long as they do I will watch.

My favorite show of all time. I have seen each episode several times and will continue to watch the DVDs and reruns. The comedy is clever and intelligent, not dumbed down jokes for the broadest of audiences. I love that each character has a plot line in each show, and that many times they overlap. Now I get to relive a little Seinfeld on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with Larry David, and this season they are even doing a mock Seinfeld reunion that includes all the old characters, with a lot of the old writers and behind-the-scenes productionists helping out.

Newlywed Game--I do not like the show because I believe it is degrading to the people on it and to the institution of marriage. By airing this show, the network has infused immorality into its otherwise wholesome line.
Recently, however, it has taken yet another step downward with its new commercials for the Newlywed Game. Even non-viewers of the show are now subjected to its peepshow brand of humor. In these spots, a woman, in an office
situation, is asked inappropriate questions about her love life with her husband.

I suppose that this sort of thing sells soap, so to speak. But at what cost. I am hoping that GSC can continue to challenge the mind and entertain
without seeking to compete with channels which are aimed at the lower levels to which people can descend.

I would request that if necessary this message be routed to the appropriate party.

Thank you.

It could have been a better show, but it did make Jessica Alba famous...
