This food is fantastic. Both of my dogs are finicky eaters and they love this food. For the longest time I could only get my yorkie to eat wet food. But I bought a bag of this dry food and he loves it....he doesn't even touch wet food now. Plus, it really helped with his allergies because it does not have corn, wheat, or soy in it....and his skin and coat look amazing. His allergies are very severe, so we have to be VERY careful what we give him. I also tried BLUE treats, which they also love!! I just can't get over the transformation with both of by dogs!

I also buy BLUE for my mother's cat. Her coat looks beautiful and SO shiny. She also is not shedding as much now, and maybe we are all crazy, but it seems like some of her behavior problems have gotten a bit better.

I also noticed that my animals do not eat nearly as much since they are getting the proper nutrition they need, and their stool are perfect. During the first week or so they were a bit runny, but I think that was still all the old garbage food coming out. Now they are very small and don't smell hardly at all.

This is seriously the best food I have ever bought!

Thanks BLUE!!

my 4-year old mini dachshund Venice eats Purina One Adult Chicken & Rice formula. His coat is gorgeous and glossy, far better looking than when he was eating a "human-grade" all-natural food. I rescued a 14-year old mini dachshund in 2007, and she is thriving on the Purina One Senior Chicken & Rice formula. A truly great product.

Ok I just switched from Rachel Ray's food to Origen 6 grainless. My two boxers age 2 have a ton of energy but the gas and liquid poop not good. I know it will take some time so I will write back soon.

This food is one of the best. My 8 year old cocker spaniel has beautiful fur, lots of energy and eats every bite.

I notice that many reviews here indicate diarrhea and vomiting. I have to wonder if they switched their dog's diet too fast. When introducing your dog to new food, it is very important to switch GRADUALLY, or you run the risk of upsetting their stomach.

Read the ingredient list and you'll see that this is all natural (with some vitamins and minerals added, of course) and high quality. No wheat, no soy, both of which are a leading cause of allergies. High in Omega 3 fatty acids, which is great for the dog's heart and coat. The price is right too.

I think the price vs. quality ratio is just perfect. We were feeding our puppies California Naturals Chicken & Rice dry puppy food, and it was okay. However, their stools weren't as well-formed and this food cost more money for less food... And Chicken Soup rates higher on dogfoodanalysis.com than the California Naturals. Our two puppies loved this food, their stools are well-formed, and they both have the softest, shiniest fur possible!

Not sure about the protein comment someone mentioned, however, we also supplement our puppies with raw meat and some veggies. Like a lot of people, we couldn't afford to feed our dogs an all BARF diet. But we can get chicken leg quarters at .59 a pound...also, a lot of times the grocery store will have beef bones with some meat on them on sale for less than a dollar a pack. Our puppies do great with the Chicken Soup/some raw food combination.

Also, if you are having problems with stool formation, try some canned pumpkin in their diet. Works wonders!

Let me start off by saying this: a raw diet IS ideal for a canine companion, but not economical nor convenient for most people in the working class. Now that we have that out of the way - anyone who comes on here and gives Taste of the Wild one star just because YOU feed your dogs raw meat is not helping anyone and just makes you look like an idiot.

I have been feeding Taste of the Wild to my dogs for the past 6 months. I buy all 3 formulas and give a different one every meal time. My dogs have never had digestive issues, their coats are shiny, and their skin is healthy; even my picky eater is excited to chow down no matter what the flavor of the day is! It is really the best food you can get for the price.

Now, let me address a couple of topics people have mentioned on this forum...

1. This whole preservative nonsense is just ridiculous. Have you read the ingredients labels on the food YOU eat? There are preservatives everywhere! Another poster has already shown the response from the Taste of the Wild staff explaining (and not denying) the the amount of ethoxyquin that exists in the pacific stream formula - it is practically non existent! COME ON PEOPLE! The FDA has approved the use of aspartame in diet sodas as a sweetener after 7 rejections! IT IS A DEADLY INGREDIENT! Yet we are all still alive. Interesting. So before ridiculing this food because you're an idiot, do some research.

2. Taste of the Wild brand and Diamond brand food is made by the same people. SO WHAT!? Natura makes Innova, Evo, and California Natural. Merrick has their original formulas, but also makes Before Grain. And Iams and Eukanuba are the same company. (Oh sorry, is this a holistic pet food forum exclusively?) Anyway, the point is Taste of the Wild is manufactured in a different plant than Diamond. The recall of Diamond should not scare anyone. Even our precious peanut butter has been recalled, but we still eat it now that it's OK again.

I work at a pet supply store and have seen my share of unhealthy, overweight dogs. People come in all the time and buy the cheapest garbage food for their dogs full of corn (by the way, Science Diet is mostly corn and by-products - Veterinarian Recommended? Only because they SPONSOR those particular Vet offices - Tell everyone you know!!!). This shovel food causes a myriad of problems down the road, but all these people care about is cost. It happens everywhere. Anyone who is nit picking at the ingredients in one of the best, grain free, economically friendly, and holistic pet foods (yes I am talking about Taste of the Wild) is wasting their time.

My Dogs couldn't be happier eating this food, and *WOAH!* I can afford it! Feed your dogs this food! You will not be disappointed! Though I must caution those who feed their dogs low grade foods like Kibbles n Bits or Beneful (and the like) - you might want to go to California Natural first, it is a great transition food into the holistics. Some dogs might react negatively to the high fibrous extracts and high protein content (from REAL MEAT) in the Taste of the Wild and might have some digestive upset but give it time. I'm proud to feed my dogs Taste of the Wild!

This is great dog food, and yes,Lexi Pooh,I had just the situation you are talking about, for years I ve been trying to find what suits best to my oldest dog,a labmix Roxanne, she had problems with almost everything we ve tried, even raw beef sometimes gives her runny stools, but than I ve noticed, when she eats raw fish, these problems don t seem to appear,so after High Prairie, that we were using for months,I ve left two of my younger dogs on it,but switched Roxanne to TOW paciffic stream, boy did it went well!!
She looks perfect and better than ever, her stool is so firm, and no anal gland problem what so ever.
Her hair is gorgeous, and I can say this is the best food I ve ever tried(and I did try many of the great food,Orijen,Wellnes,Timberwolf).

And yes it is made by Diamond, but after all the recalls, and some companies keeping their mouth shut,I feel really confident feeding Diamond food, they were honest about it,and yes, mistakes happen,it doesn t make me feel or think lees of them,as matter affects,I have pretty high opinion on them, regarding that.
This is definitely the best food for us,and we are sticking with it,would recomment it to anyone, perfect!!

Process of food rotation first 10 days on Merrick Wilderness Blend. One allergic boxer and one boxer with sensitive stomach. So far so good. No loose stools or allergic reactions, yeah! Even with the slow process of mixing foods.

Will not know for sure how well they do until more weeks go by. Giving 5 stars due to below from Merrick. They've been wonderful for the last 2 days getting all the information for me so I can be assured the Merrick dry formulas are safe.

+++++Hello Tracie, I called QC to ask how much garlic we used and actually effective Aug 1st 2009, we quit using garlic in out 5star formulas. So any product with a best buy date of Sept 1st 2010 will not have garlic in it. Newer bags will reflect this, AAFCO gives us a year to reflect this on our bags. I am sorry I did not have this information before. When we did use it, we used it for flavoring.

We do try to get our e-mail answered ASAP, but do fall a little behind sometimes.

We do not use Ethoxyquin in any of our products; we use a mixture of tocopherols, a natural source of Vitamin E.
I hope this helps with everything, and please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

Thanks,
Merrick Pet Care+++++

(Ol' Roy CANNED food)

I'm sorry, but I don't know where some people here are getting the ingredients from for their Ol' Roy. Either I'm getting a different kind of Ol' Roy, or they changed their recipe, because in my opinion, the Ol' Roy I'm looking at in my hand right now is perfectly fine.

Here are the first seven ingredients:

Water sufficient for processing, CHICKEN, meat by-products, wheat flour, BEEF, LIVER, chicken meal

For the price you get, I think that's amazing. And down the line there is vegetable oil, which is very healthy for their coat. I'd have to say that for the price you pay, that is great food. I'm also looking more down the line and I don't see ANYTHING corn in here. If anyone is wondering, I'm looking at the canned food, Strips in Gravy with Beef.

I was only going to give it a three because my dog hasn't fully adjusted to eating it yet (takes a dog about a week or so to get used to new foods in their diet), so until I see the end result, I can't say how good I think it is, but judging by the ingredients and how her coat is drastically shinier and softer, I'll give it a four.

Horrible! We VERY slowly (3 weeks) introduced Nature's Recipe to our two lab mutts because their previous food drastically went up in price. BIG MISTAKE! They both had the worst gas and diarrhea. At first we thought they may just have sensative stomachs and need more time to adjust to the food, but the gas and diarrhea only got worse. We continued the food for 1.5 months and decided to take them off it. They were so sick that we stopped feeding them this food cold turkey. No problems so far with the new product.
