I didn't have the energy to cook recently so I walked to the grocery store and examined my options. There was a display of this pizza at the end of the frozen food aisle, and, having had generally good experiences with other products under the Newman's Own brand including salsa and lemonade, I figured it couldn't be awful.
I was wrong.
The Thin & Crispy crust lives up to its name. It resembled matzo, but with less flavor. The sauce was bitter, the cheese was somehow equally as hard and crunchy as the crust. I took two bites and threw the rest out. Fortunately it was so awful that I lost my appetite, so at least I didn't need to figure out how to salvage dinner.
Now, I'll admit to being a bit of a pizza snob...I'm of Italian descent and I lived in Rome for 6 months, so I've had my fair share of fantastic pizza, but I had already lowered my expectations to that of standard frozen pizza. I've had freschetta or some brand like that previously that was edible if not delicious. Newman's Own is an epic frozen pizza failure that leads me to wonder if they're not just licensing the name out with no quality constraints.
I'll be avoiding this and other new Newman's Own products in the future.
