It's not really "free" when you pay a hundred plus bucks a night...

Evidently they're a prime source of free coffee if you know how to work it right. I like the idea of toying with the salesman, if you're that bored and desperate for caffeine.

Now, I didn't come on here to say that most banks serve free coffee to the public. In fact, if you come back and say "well minkey said I could get free coffee at banks and I went looking in three of them and not one served free coffee" I will deny any involvement in this list item. However, I can with confidence say that if you go to the Wells Fargo near my condo, you will always find a Keurig with a variety of free coffee.

If I ever am looking for a good cup of joe, I head straight for the nearest tire store. That's some damn good coffee.

There is one store I have in mind, called Williams-Sonoma, that is a bit of a higher-end kitchen supply store. You can find one by Union Square in San Francisco. I would occasionally stroll in to get some free hot apple cider, depending on the time of year, or more often than not, a free coffee sample. And I'm not talking about any Trader Joe's sample cup, I'm talking about the size of a tall Starbucks coffee. Occasionally they'd have espresso samples as well, but not always, hence the hit or miss rating.

I've done the move where I've parked, made like a hotel guest and walked right through the lobby to the free coffee. The thing is, you won't find it at every chain. Some serve it free, some charge. Occasionally, I've seen a sign that says "for hotel guests only". I'll respect that. I do have my morals.

You'll find it here, but you won't find it fresh. At least in my experience. Although I've never been in one at 7am.

Now anyone who has seen Fight Club knows that self-help groups love to serve free coffee. I heard the saying in the rooms before that the "odds are good but the goods are odd". I don't think that saying was related to coffee but it works for coffee too. It's not typically the tastiest in town but it's there if you need it.

You won't find it at your LA fitness, but I went to a place called the Village in Phoenix that had Seattle's Best coffee, as much as you could drink. Same with a place called the Bay Club here in CA; not sure the brand but they have pretty good free coffee before 10.

Now I'm not talking about your run of the mill Catholic Church, but the non-demonitational churches may serve free coffee. Is it a fairly big time-investment to sit through an hour or so pitch by a local minister / rabbi / priest / pastor to get a free cup of coffee? Yes. But it has been done. And I'm not saying I'm above grabbing some free coffee and then doing the "forgot something in my car" move.
