I was ready to ship it back several times while trying to program it but I am persistent and was so proud of myself when I finally got it! I am 87 years old and use it for recording mostly my soaps and movies that are on at conflicting times. The only complaint I have is that the computer is very hard to see for someone like me with macular degeneration. Other than that I am well satisfied with the recorder and also with Amazon. I have had only good experiences in shopping with them.

Purchased unit to play back older VHS Movies through S-Video Cable.(Clearer Picture)
Also to record TV programs with DVD Recorder..
Was VERY HAPPY & AMAZED to find that all signals (VHS, DVD & TV Tuner) are able to be played back through the HDMI cable to TV. Makes VHS playback sharpest picture you can get. I have 1 cable running to my TV from this machine.
(No Need for the S-Video cable)
This allows hook up to be very easy, very fast and makes for nice neat appearance. (1 cable vs 3,4 or 5)
DVD recording play back is very SHARP and CHRISP. Sound is perfect too.
Having the DTV tuner lets me record DTV chanels too.

Only feature I found that was a little problem, was the Auto Clock setting.
Clock did not keep correct time when in Auto Mode.
Changed Clock setting to Manual Mode and clock keeps perfect time now..

I personally love this phone, it is the best phone i have had so far. even thought i have the pink gloss not the black. i love that it has the full key board much easier then the regular phone if you text a lot. it's a flip phone not the sliding one that i know breaks very easily so that's a plus. also the camera on the phone is excellent, doesn't really show up that well on the actual phone, but if you upload it to a computer or send it to your email it's quality of the picture changes to a much better quality and has been better then some of the digital camera's i have had.(even though i haven't really had the best of cameras) but anyways, the durability of this phone is pretty strong like all the other samsung models. over all i must say that this is a pretty good phone, the best one i would say that there is in the whole uscelluar network.

I purchased this DVD/VCR to replace an exact model which was destroyed when our
house was struck by lightening and burned out some electric wiring. (We were
lucky the house did not catch fire!). Anyway, I was very satisfied with this
model which enabled me to use my collection of DVD's and VCR tapes. Easy to
understand and use for a senior citizen!! Great price from Amazon.

I purchased this item through Amazon on 9-29-2009.

It must be a discontinued model because after it failed, I called Philips Support and they said they would replace it with a similar model since they no longer have any more of that model. It failed to Play the VHS tape even though it would record on it. I played it on another machine that proved that. Play back just died completely for tape. The DVD worked fine.

Then they called me later and said there was no similar model so they were going to refund my money less shipping. I sent them a copy of the Amazon order with all the information. They were going to send shipping labels by UPS arriving in 4 or 5 days. That
time past, so I e-mailed them and they said they made a mistake, said it should have been 1 or 2 weeks. That went by and nothing again. I called them again and she said she reordered the labels and sent me information about returning the product. Still waiting for a result from UPS to pick it up.

EQUIPMENT:
Panasonic TH-50PZ800U, LG 32LG70, and Sharp LC-26GA4U TV's

PROS:
Good picture quality (DVD)
Features/Design
Channel edit function
Simplink
Single HDMI output for DVD and tape

CONS:
Unit gets exceptionally hot
Video Mode Recording periodically stops
No backlighting on remote control buttons
Does not have LP speed for tape recording (only has SLP or SP)
Poor quality VCR SLP recording
Cannot select timer recording channels using direct input
No return to previous channel/input button
Erases program recordings when channel scan performed

I purchased this unit because it has a built-in digital tuner, the ability to record Over-The-Air (OTA) broadcasts to VCR tape or DVD, and has the ability to playback both DVD and VCR tapes via the HDMI output. I rate the recorded DVD picture quality as good, however the VCR picture quality is poor. The VCR picture quality is worse than the SLP picture quality of a badly recorded analog VCR tape.

It is relatively easy to set the unit up and use it to record, however I recommend using the VR recording mode as opposed to the Video recording mode. The unit randomly stops recording when used in the Video mode to record OTA programs (especially The CW channel), regardless of the brand of DVDs used for the recording. The VR mode seems to ignore whatever causes the recording issue (see the Internet for discussions of copy-protected OTA and cable issues). If this is a glimpse of the future for consumer time-shift programming, my television watching will significantly be reduced because I time-shift all my TV programming.

The unit has all the features one needs to record and/or copy DVD/VCR media. The machines design is simplistic and functional. The channel edit function is especially intuitive to use. The ability to use the single HDMI output for DVD or tape allows the use of a single cable between the pre amp/receiver or television. SIMPLINK allows the unit to change to the active link when the unit is powered on, but this only works if you are connected to another LG device.

I noted the unit gets exceptionally warm during use. This makes me concerned about the longevity of the product however it has operated OK over the year I have owned it. In fact I was so pleased with it, I purchased additional units.

This machine has a great playback picture and works very well with my other components. You could pay twice the price for other combo units and by lucky to get anywhere close to the quality.

I've looked at and used a several DVD/VCR combos over the last couple of years but this is the best so far. I liked it so much I bought a second a few weeks later. Very easy to program.

This worked fine under light use for 5 months, then started eating tapes. Full warranty is for 90 days, so I figured I'd have to send to service center and pay something for Toshiba to repair or replace. Could not find the service center going through the Toshiba site, so I called Toshiba customer service between 9 and 5 as directed and got the runaround for over an hour ... could access how to get my tape out, but never how to get Toshiba to honor the partial warranty for months 4-12. Finally threw the thing away. I will not buy Toshiba again.
