I have been wanting a pair of these boots for a long time, a very long time. I have settled for everything else in the past. From Wal Mart footware to Red Wing brand boots. Some were good, some not so good. The price was keeping me from the Danners. My plan was to wait and see if the price would go down. But the price started GOING UP ever so often. I thought damn it and it's now or pay more later. So I got out the Mastercard and they arrived on the UPS truck. Now, let me address all you fellow boot wearers. These Danner Fort Lewis are absolutely the best boots I have ever put on my feet. I am spoiled forever because I will never wear anything from day to day like I do these boots. I know some of you may feel different about this but my plan is to wear my old Red Wings to mow the grass and walk through the mud, etc. This is because I don't want to get my NEW boots nasty. Maybe after my second pair of Danners, I will use the first pair for the "dirty work." I remember when I bought the Red Wings. They were great boots but they were rock hard on the inside. If I remember correctly I had to immediately buy two extra, soft insoles for them so my feet wouldn't hurt or blister. The Danner Fort Lewis boots are ready right out of the box. Soft on the inside (not like a pillow but the softest soles I have ever had in a boot right out of the box). And they have all that extra stuff too. Waterproof, durable as hell, insulation and steel toe, etc. These Danners are it. These are my footware from here on out, no damn doubt. I know the price is outstanding ($314.00). You just may convince yourself they are worth it after you lace them babies up and take a little walk down the road.

I've had this thing for 5 years and it's held up perfectly! Very DURABLE WIDE-RIBBED zipper, a place my past backpacks eventually break. The heavyweight canvas and leather stands up well over time, as years of carrying textbooks over across snow-covered campuses have proven. Rugged looks will keep it from ever being mistaken for a man-purse.

Durable and comfortable. Ugly, but functional. I tried Hi-Tec, but now that I have a pair of Merrels, will probably buy nothing else.

A well designed boot. Very comfortable over many miles; the design supports foot very well so toes are free of pressure. Comfortable, tough and hard wearing.

I bought this pck not knowing anything about hiking gear. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise! I've used this pack for a 3 week trip to the Philippines and it fit all my gear. Perfect weight distribution. I let my friend borrow it when she went to India for 2 weeks and loved it so much she bought one for herself. I'm going camping tomorrow for the weekend at Stokes State Park and all my gear is in there! Tent hooked to the outside, sleeping bag inside (a little tight though) clothes for the weekend, 2 pairs of shoes and sandles. bug spray and etc...and it all fits and doesn't hurt my body when feeling the load on my back. Adjustability, Durability, Comofort all for a geat price! $80 at a store closing and with my friends employee discount.

I've had these boots for over 4 years and they still don't have a scratch on them. I've been up and down the Cascades with them carrying a 40# pack through mud, water, snow and sun and they still hold there shape. I've tried trashing them against sharp granite numerous times but they just don't want to scratch! These boots are by far the best ones I've ever owned, and there LIGHT!!! The solid nylon full length shank makes standing on sharp rocks feel like your walking on a smooth flat surface. Forget about heavy all leather boots! These are by far the best boot ever made.

A great pair of leather mountaineering boots. I have a "C" width foot and this boot fits me perfectly. I have heard complaints from folks with wider feet but for my foot they're great. These are stiff boots but I can use them for heavy winter backpacking trips as well. These boots have a cork footbed (like an expensive dress shoe) that get better with each wear. I would recommend these for any mountaineering trip other than a long trip on a sloppy glacier or trip such as Denali where extreme cold is a factor. These are very nimble boots for mixed terrain and with a pair of Sabretooth crampons mine are wonderful. They're performed well ice climbing, on various mountains (Cascades and Mexico) and also for long backpacking trips. Can't say enough good things about them.
