In a room full of flowers you lay down, close your eyes, breathe deeply and listen to Van Morrison's Astral Weeks. It may not help you achieve inner peace and serenity instantly but it's a better way to spend an hour than watching Dancing with the Stars.

The problem with theodicy is that it is illogical. Once again, you can have a logical God, or an apathetic, hands-off creator. Not both. Not only is theodicy illogical, but it breaks the laws of physics..and if you think breaking regular laws are bad, baby you ain't seen nothing!
In this world is cause and effect. If I fall off a mountain, then I die. I do not suddenly fly away. Why? Because of science, because of gravity. Gravity does not pick and choose, it always does the same thing everytime. Trust me, I do not know everything about gravity, but I do know this.
If the world is overpopulated, people run out of food and famine reusults. Food does not magically appear. (Yes, yes, that story in Matthew, but that was to prove a point. It was a one time thing) For God to magically appear every single time would be illogical.
If you get stabbed, the knife will not pass through harmlessly (believe me) it will wound and/or kill. why? Because metal through flesh wounds/kills.
All those people who think that any version of God should bend the rules for them is self-centered and naive. (miracles aside)
Life is a bitch, get over it. Life plays by the same rules every time. People may not, but life does.

I believe that animals have souls. In fact there are a lot of passages that speak favorably of animals that Christians like to forget because it inconviences them.
Let me put it this way, I believe that if God created man, gave us a consciousness and minds and emotions and a soul. I believe that if God created animals then he gave them consciousness and minds and emotions and souls. To create a conscious being (of which animals are) only to have them turn to dust upon death is illogical. If you believe in God then you must think him logical or non-personal. He can't be both.
In fact, some Catholic and Protestant churches are starting to bless and baptise pets now. You know, because they have souls.

Depends. O.T. was more "eye for an eye" mentality. Jesus was all about forgiveness. Pick your poison.

Apparently God forgot to mention dinosaurs to Moses. That's o.k. we see the fossils, I can't see Moses, or any of them, being overly concerned about a bunch of dead lizards anyway.

Depending on where you look the Bible is either for it or against it. Proverbs has the strongest warnings against it, which makes sense because it is a rule book from father to son. Jesus seemed to enjoy his wine (on several occasions) and in the famous story where he converted water to wine, apparently it was the best wine ever.
Still, my favorite passage has to be Ecclesiastes 10:19--
A feast is made for laughter,
and wine makes life merry,
but money is the answer for everything.
I have always found that to be very good advice.

It's more humane than life in prison. 20 years of segergation and a needle in the arm or 20-50 years of daily beatens and sexual abuse from other inmates. Give me the damn needle.

Has anyone ever noticed the curious logic that is employed to supposedly ban women pastors?

One of the most common verses used to "prove" that women can't preach is I Timothy 2:11-15 --

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety"

This verse contains the worst logic employed in the Bible. Let's examine the parts of this verse:

"Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection"

Should we not all learn in silence?

"But I suffer not"

HE suffers not. One man's opinion is not a universal command.

" nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence."

Are men so insecure that they can't handle women who "usurp their authority"?

"For Adam was first formed, then Eve"

So what? IF you believe that the Garden of Eden was a literal story (I don't), light was created before either Adam or Eve. Does that mean that we must submit to light, since it was created first?

"And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. "

Adam wasn't deceived? Adam had nothing to do with what (supposedly) happened in the Garden? Both Adam and Eve were kicked out of the Garden for their actions. They were both to blame for what happened.

"Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing"

What does that mean? That women are only good for bearing children?

The most mysterious thing about those who don't believe in female pastors is the fact that when prompted, NONE of them can give a good reason why such a ban supposedly exists. Unlike the other commandments in the Bible, there doesn't seem to be any practical reason to ban women from preaching except malarkey about women being a "weaker vessel" and bad logic concerning the order of creation. It leads me to conclude that the only place where such a ban exists is in the heads of some fellow Christians.
