That would depend entirely upon whose funeral it is...

Wrong and very disrespectful. But more common thanks to a general lack of manners these days.

If you are part of my family, the only time we see each other is during Weddings and Funerals, So the occasional catch-up is inevitable.
As long as you are not laughing in the Eulogy or dancing on the grave, I think it all right.

I've known a few to do this. People deal with grief differently. AS long as your not the giggly drunk or the giggly high Its not too bad.

Good heavens we're not just there to sob and grieve. I haven't been to a funeral yet, or in a very long time anyway, that didn't include at least as many warm hearted or funny reminiscences as it did moments of deep mourning.

I hope the phone call isn't from the guy in the coffin.

A beautifully haunting and tragic song by the Clancy brothers, enough to make grown men weep (particularly if the booze is flowing). If I listen to it in conjunction with "The Green Fields of France" by the Fureys, I almost always embarrass myself by becoming a blubbering fool. Luckily for me, the people I'm with tend to be drinking at the same time (although these songs are certainly emotionally effective even without the booze). Bring on the Kleenex...

This song has been claimed by Irish Catholics, even though the subject was a resolute Prot. Although we're loathe to admit it, there was a time when Irish Protestants were as persecuted as Irish Catholics. Didn't last long, but the non-bead jiggling anti-papists took their share of abuse while it lasted.

Not bad, but a little too typically maudlin. And if you're wondering what's with all the weepy Harp shite today, I just got word I lost another friend of some years. I guess I'll have to wring out the liver and get ready for another wake....

Even knowledgeable Harps sometimes think of this as a traditional song, this is in fact very recent (circa 1975)

Comes up at wakes now and then, but best not to be sung when the whiskys been round a bit at a politically divided wake or you'll be ordering in new windows and chairs.  We're contentious bastards, as you may have gathered.
