Well I've never shot a fish with a shotgun, but I did shoot a 4 pound channel cat with a .22 when I was a kid. I was just shooting at a piece of styrofoam floating on dad's pond. It turns out that styrofoam was being used to float a line that someone had put out there (without Dad's permission). I missed the foam, but hit the fish. Dad and I decided the fish was ours.

Deer is the only big game animal to frequent the state of Iowa (a few cougars in western Iowa, but rumored in eastern Iowa, a few black bear occasionally leave tracks and droppings in the northeast part of the state, but are never seen, and I know of one case where a disoriented moose managed to get all the way to southeast Iowa before some guy shot it for the hell of it). Due to that fact, it's the only one on this list I can afford to buy a license for, because I don't have to pay for an out of state tag. If you get a doe or spike buck, the meat is good and is great for roasts or steaks. A big buck is only suitable to be ground and used in something spicy like chili.

I'm not a big fan of hunting as "sport". In fact, I don't think it's fair to call hunting a sport unless the animals were to be armed too.

However, in my lost youth, we lived in the middle of a 700 acre orchard where shooting the deer [who stripped the trees of buds in the spring] was permitted year round, and as a result I developed a taste for venison.

I've hunted a cougar or two. I find the best spots are bars, later on a Saturday night. They often travel in pairs or packs, so its sometimes tricky singling one out, but its usually worth the effort.

I know a lot of people that go deer hunting, and if that's their thing, they should go for it. As for me, well, just call me a tree hugger. And besides, I can't stand the taste of game meat.

I watched a segment about "Noodling" on Manswers last night and it looks pretty hard core. The Catfish get absolutely huge - like over a hundred pounds huge.

When the catfish realizes it is not eating a tasty worm but a human arm, it understandably tries to drown the noodler.

According to Manswers (which is my top source for noodling related facts and figures), Noodling is the most dangerous type of fishing in the world - even more dangerous than commercial fishing with around 70 deaths per year due to noodlers unable to keep their head above the water when the catfish realizes the doublecross.

I would obviously NOT use this for deer. I might use it on small squirrels. That is only if they are not charging me. I don't think this caliber would stop a charging squirrel!

great chuck gun, mine is a remington model 700 chambered in the .222, and it has open sights and a hooded front sight, it doen't get out much, becuase of the enjoyment that i get out of my .223, that and it has a beautiful stock that i wouldn't be able to live with my self, if i dinged it, hunting wood chucks.

I have two choices for dear, my mini 30, which shoots a 7.62 X 39mm cartridge, which was developed by the russians, common rifles chambered in the caliber are ak-47's and sks's. but i feel that the .45 is a fine cartridge for deer, it has plenty of power, at a moderate speed, and a decent chunk of lead on top of the rest, i think that it is good for forested areas, if you hunt in thick woods like myself, and all of your shots are going to be withing 50 yards, unless you have a scope, i shoot a lever action rossi, with iron sights, and i am sure that if you reload, that you could get better ballistics out of this round, just by using a polymer tip, which hornady currently has out for lever avtion rifles specifically, call leverevolution. becuase you should never have pointed bulletes in a tubular magizine.

i currently hav a .223 that is made by ruger, it is a mini 14, which is a semi auto, that is based off of the famous M-1 garand action, same trigger and saftey assembly, but leighter, and shorter, currently it has peep sights, but when i find the money, i would like to invest in a 4 X 12 for it. i think that for anyone who hunts coyote, or varmints of any kind, it is a great gun super accurate, and fast, without sacraficing barrel life, like that of the .22-250.
