Plax got two years in prison today, due to NYC's tough gun laws.
This one doesn't really sit right with me. Donte Stallworth, also an NFL receiver, got 24 days in prison for killing a man while drunk driving. Former VP Dick Cheney didn't get anything for shooting his friend in the face.
This strikes me as one of those occasions where it doesn't seem like there was a human brain involved in dictating the sentence. Other than Plax himself, this was a victimless crime. Pro athletes are at risk every time they leave the house, and you can see why these guys want to protect themselves.
He should have had the paperwork for the gun. He should have had a holster. He should not have put the gun in his elastic pants, and he shouldn't have been so klutzy as to shoot himself in the leg. But do we really need to send this man to prison for two years?
