Smart guy. Makes some amazing points in his lectures. (Too much religious banter for my tastes but if that's what you like guess it's no harm done.) Learned a lot from this genius on how evil credit cards are!!!! :)

I would say this, Mike Malloy is one of the best Pro-Talk host we have the privilege to listen to. He has lightened his tone and appears more calm now which is very enjoyable. He knows his facts and presents them very well. I love it when he sites and one can go directly to the site and read the whole story. Mr. Malloy is so needed to educate those who are uninformed or just do not know what is truly going on out in the REAL World. Keep the light burning!!!!!

Just the voice alone is worth a 1. What a dreadful voice, and moreover, dreadful material to make people paranoid. Live your life w/o listening to crackpots like these.

Typical anti-Semitic schmuckhead.

UPDATE: Obviously, I'm not the only one who thinks so: http://www.debbieschlussel.com/14004/anti-semite-of-the-day-garrison-the-definition-of-schmuck-keillor/

The awful truth about this guy is that he may be right about a lot of things he says. The problem is that he sounds like such a rabid, raving lunatic that the "truth" gets soggy like a bowl of Fruit Loops that have been sitting in milk for too long. When he does his own version of "Mercury Theatre on the Air" and people get frantic and start running for the hills...just pour yourself a tall one, get comfy and look out the window. You just may see AryanDan running with the herd.

He's on the radio, he has a show, he talks and he is the host - yet, strangely, I wouldn't consider him a 'radio talk show host'.

His sentimental, nostalgic format is well executed and entertaining in the same way as this year's Woody Allen film, or last year's or the one from the year before that. But like Allen's films I don't feel compelled to catch every one that comes out. I can keep up by tuning-in from time to time.

The Altman film that was made of his radio show was a great match-up of film-maker and muse.

PROS:
Ramsey's financial peace advice is effective. People call it simple, but not only is DR's finanicial plan somewhat sophisticated for the average Joe (budgets, prioritizing, etc.), but, more importantly, it is also VERY HARD to do. As with many "simple" plans, developing the psychological setting and strength to execute the plan is very hard. And THAT is precisely what Dave's advice is effective at...the psychology of getting financially at peace...which, if you are married, goes way beyond money. It dramatically improves your marriage.

For example, the *how* to lose weight is simple: exercise and eat better. But actually doing it requires a lot of psychological work for people.

So those who think Dave's Finanical Peace plan is simple, you either don't understand the pyschological barriers most people have or you are arrogant...probably both.

Thanks to DR's plan, my wife and I paid off all of our $62k of debt and improved our marriage!

ALSO, his advice on mutual funds really helped me. His advice is *simple*: buy mutual funds that both have been around awhile (ten years) AND had a good long-term rate of return. It does sound simple, but nearly all investors dream of get that one winner right after it is issued. That's where most people screw up...buying single stocks and young unproven mutuals.

Anyway, I got into a few of those types of mutual funds right in 2007. In 2008, the economy went down the tubes. But I didn't lose that much and what I lost, I regained plus a lot more WAY before the market bottomed out.

Still, I don't like the market anymore. I've lost faith in it. So I started investing in other things that I have control. For example, education.

CONS:
Oh boy. It's as if he helps you free up large sums of cash (getting debt free) so you can give it to him! Like any con man, he gets you to trust him, then monetizes that trust.

Due to my success, I was drawn to work with Dave Ramsey as an ELP or other function. Yikes. Despite his advice to not pay for training (that it's the company's responsibility to train you), he requires you to pay for training. Thousands of dollars.

Dave also monetizes his trust by driving people who trust him to certain companies, whom surely pay him for the endorsements: insurance, ezmeals, legal forms, gold stash, computer security companies, and even a MORTGAGE COMPANY. Dave preaches absolutely do not get into debt, then pushes a mortgage company. WTF!

Dave is immature. All too often, his inner child comes out and reeks havoc destroying relationships and creating grudges...and he likes it that way. For example, when a caller asked him about Peter Schiff, Dave went off needlessly bashing Schiff's father and dismissing anything Peter had to say. When Peter pushed gold and was right, Dave really dug in his heels. Now, despite Peter guessing right about gold, I actually agree with Dave that gold, being a single investment, is about as dumb an investment as buying a single stock. Anyway, out of spite, Dave partnered with a gold *selling* company to really stick it to gold bugs.

Most of all, he unnecessarily butts heads with the people works with, often because he lets his wife meddle in affairs she doesn't understand. He loses a lot of support with his personality flaws.

Further, he tries to make every little job commission-based...which means that unless all commission are all perfectly structured, or lots of people get screwed if they fail in one of dozens of factors. That echos that con man business strategy. Dave requires his people to work on commission, yet he gets paid up front via paid training. Hmmm.

I did not get into his ELP program, but I found plenty of folks who said they have on the Internet. Their take of the ELP program differs from formerELP's opinion on this board. Some love it, some found it too restrictive...but I found no mention of an monthly endorsement fee...in fact, I found one guy who responded to the question of a fee, "We don't pay anything to be an ELP, we just pay Dave a referral when the client closes." If true, that is pretty standard.

SUMMARY:
As nearly EVERYONE on the planet says, Dave's Financial Peace plan works (even if simple).

But don't fall in love with Dave...fall in love with his philosophy of reason and morality.

If you go beyond Financial Peace and further into Dave's world, tread carefully.
