Winco Foods for the most part has good value pricing. I don't care much for their customer service but then again I don't go there because I like the people. I like the pricing and value. However, Winco Foods has adopted a new house brand, Hy-Top. I have tried maybe 20 different Hy-Top products from crackers to tuna and in every instance I find the Hy-Top product to be sub-standard in quality, taste and performance. When the product purchased does not fulfill the shoppers expectations then the value is lost. I don't shop as much at Winco Foods as I used to because the value has been diminished and I can find name brand values elsewhere.

I took my engagement ring and wedding band to the Christiansburg, VA location to have a small diamond replaced and the shanks on both rings fixed. I picked up the rings on 10/27/09 and payed a fee of $180. In less than 48 hours both shanks were bent far worse than before and three small diamonds were gone from the engagement ring. I have been told that it will not be fixed under the 6 month warranty because it was not under normal wear and tear. I can assure you that I did nothing unusual in the 48 hours after receiving the rings. The customer service person even accused me of "running over it with a car". This is absurd. I have been a customer with this store for 12 years and I am shocked to be treated this way. Why offer a 6 month warranty if you do not stand behind your work?

Review Icon lix reviewed Ikea in Furniture Stores:
Great quality furniture/household furnishings/decor at fairly affordable prices. I have a few pieces scattered throughout the house and after several moves they still look as they did the day I bought them.

One night while sitting around with friends talking about IKEA and the names, we developed a marketing campaign over margarita's: White screen, an ikea pew like item in the middle of a screen, and dude with a knit winter cap with an Ipod tucked in his ears, pants in his pockets kinda rocks his way past the item, stops, looks at the furniture and says, "Benchen!" And then lifts bench and carries it out like it was a boom box.

The advertising campaigns are usually funny/interesting, and yet simple in their design, like the furniture. The shopping experience is usually fun, despite the crowds, and I like the self-serve aspect, how no one is hounding you when you're meandering through the store, their scratch n dent, and that I can drive my car up to the doors to pick up the item because spots are reserved there for just that purpose.

I've been looking at IKEA kitchen cabinets. I also read somewhere that they will ship several items regardless of size and weight for $100 and since these stores are few and far between (I have to drive 6 hours to get to one) this makes for easy catologue shopping for the big ticket items. I dont' know if you can purchase items from catalogues in other countries (they do have different things out there that aren't available closer to home-). (LOL @Copywrite, Lixi, 2009)

So, drop your kids off in the play room (if you want to, at least I still think they have the plastic ball pit there), walk through the store, sit down and have some sweedish meatballs for a lunch snack, and then have a nap on Benchen.

If anyone from Ikea is reading this, I really really need a new kitchen because I'm pretty sure the old one has an evil spirit that causes me to burn water and screw up on toast.

I want to share my daughters experience while attempting to return an application for employment... The Customer Service Desk had an elderly employee whom harassed my daughter regarding her application stating they were not accepting applications(however the web site stated that store location was hiring) .... my daughter asked for the phone number to do the online survey/pre-employement questionnaire and was told there is no such thing( We all know there is a pre-employement/on-line survey, another WinCo employee told us of this and said to take the survey before the interview) The woman accused my daughter of calling her a liar in front of other customers in line, then used the overhead loudspeaker to call for a manager, said she had a rude customer and that the customer is calling her a liar!! When the manager came( a woman but can't recall her name) my daughter reached out her hand to shake but the woman manager crossed her arms instead, she didn't blink an eye when my daughter explained what happened, grabbed the application and said nothing, No Apology or partial fault on employee( the help desk person obviously didn't know and felt challenged by a 18 year old child questioning her authority and lack of hiring practice proceedures/protocol) I personally felt there was a difference of opinion/personality clash between the two...the woman manager should have noticed something due to the gleam in the help desk lady's eyes/big mouthed grim...OK, so life goes on but at what cost?? How many more customers get treated like this or worse before management steps up their game?? This is why friends and family don't mix well with business, either way,
customer service professionals would never embarrass a customer by abusing her power using the overhead page in this manor...The manager might have spoken or disciplined her after we left but I seriously doubt that happened...the help desk lady's smirk on her face said it all...Why do you say I should have jumped in having witmessed this??? My daughter needs to learn from her mistakes, right or wrong, even when she's not at fault...My point being, WinCo isn't all you claim and everyone makes mistakes!! What makes a company great is correcting bad behavior and following thru with managers/employees training methods so future problems are avoided...

Yesterday I went to the Famous Footwear in Corvallis, Oregon, where I live. I had purchased 2 pairs of the same shoes (two different sizes) for my boyfriends birthday two weeks ago. He wasn't fond of either of them and never even tried them on. We took the shoe boxes with the shoes and the original receipt back to the store to find a pair he liked. We quickly found a great pair and when I put down the boxes and handed the sales person, Yessy, the receipt. I was told I need to provide my drivers license to return and to exchange. I had the original credit card, which is a Bank of America Photo ID VISA with my 'obviously me' picture on it. I told her I don't have a drivers license but this proves I am who I say I am. She pointed out that at the bottom of the receipt it states, "We require a valid, government-issued photo ID for ALL Returns and Exchanges." She then stated, "a passport would work too". I said no, I have no passport. (Just to be perfectly clear, I am female, 48, anglo, caucasian, born & always lived in the U.S. -but none of that matters...) Then Yessy pointed to and stated that 'He' referring to my boyfriend (who wasn't even present at the original purchase), could show her his drivers license if I really didn't have one. I questioned her as to the logic of that and she again pointed to the quote on the receipt.

Being that I use public transportation and have to time my trips I asked my boyfriend to show her his drivers license to complete the transaction. He did, we completed the return and exchange.

I understand the need to see ID to make sure the credit card I used is mine, but that isn't what Famous Footwear is doing. This is a form of discrimination. Example: if I paid cash for the shoes and went to return OR exchange them with receipt, I still have to show a government-issued photo ID or I can't exchange or return. Why? Good question for Famous Footwear. Also on the receipt it states, "Return information will be maintained in a company database". So, someone pays cash, exchanges shoes, has to show a government-issued photo ID to do so and Famous Footwear has information from his/her drivers license -for a cash purchase!

Also, there is nothing that notifies you of this 'requirement' prior to your purchase. It is the fine print on the receipt -which you are given only AFTER you purchase the shoes! I asked for a 'higher level' manager to speak to and Yessy gave me the 800 customer service number. Her attitude and obvious frustration were a sign that this is a common complaint employees must deal with. Sadly her rudeness is a problem and complaint equal to the complaint to the Famous Footwear Executives making these requirement decisions.

What if my son, age 14 bought shoes from Famous Footwear with his money and had to return or exchange them the next day because they were too big. He hasn't got a government-issued photo ID? Should he have to bring in a person that has one to make that exchange?

This is crossing a discrimination line somehow -but discrimination doesn't appear to be the reason -it is more subtle than that, it is way over the 'protect us, protect them ID theft' sad-but-necessary thing. I understand extreme return policies but this is much more than that. I hope someone with the knowledge and conviction needed pursues a lawsuit. Go for it.

I like their shoes, location, variety and prices. Too, too bad.

I have a slightly different take on DI. Last week my wife and I entered their St Maartin store as we had several others of their shops, that is, with no intention to buy anything. We looked at diamond solitaires in the 3 carat range as a possible replacement for my wife's 2 carat GIA certified ring. We were shown 2 four carat stones which were M color and clearly not a consideration. We were set to leave when miraculously a 3 carat stone appeared, E in color and clearly better quality than the first two. The price was $29,500, a lot of money. The list was $41000 and the appraisal was for $45,000. We asked for a loupe but it didn't come. Nor did a copy of the EGL USA certifiacate. I suggested we leave to see at least if the price came down. But we didn't leave and I could see my wife was very interested. She picked out a setting and I knew this was now more than just a browsing session. As she stepped outside with another salesman, I said to the main guy, give me your best price cause I am ready to leave. He said $29,000. I asked to see pendant setting for the 2 carat stone I had given my wife years ago. She picked one out and I said you can throw that in, right? He did. Next thing I know I've paid for it, never having been given a loupe, though my wife had used it briefly. As we were waiting for the credit card approval, he casually said "By the way, this has been laser drilled." I don't have a clue about laser drilling and when he explains it, I said it sounds similar to heating stones which is controversial. But that's all I said and the deal went through. In short that night I had terrible misgivings about the purchase. I couldn't believe I had just dropped $29000 in a foreign country and in a shop I had little knowledge of. Worse, I hadn't really tried to get the price down. When I came home and read this site, I really began to sweat, so today I had it appraised by a very reputable local appraiser. She said $37,200. I stopped sweating. But let me warn you: be very careful with all these shops that are recommended on board ship. DI's return policy is virtually useless as others have shown. Don't be stupid like me and purchase a big ticket item unless the terms are much more in your favor, the price is rock bottom, and you have seen the stone with a loupe or even better, a scope. Bargain hard and walk out if necessary. We had spent 3 hours there and now I really believe if we had done what I originally suggested and walked out of the shop, he would have lowered the price more rather than to lose a sale. We are not kids and we knew better than to do this, but we got caught up in things. Don't let it happen to you. We were lucky, very lucky. Don't count on luck when you're spending thousands. Incidentally, the EGL USA subsidiary which provides apparisals said it was worth $45,000, 20% more than what the local appraiser said. Caveat emptor. Believe me, it is better to lie in bed thinking "Darn, I wish I had bought that ring" than it is to be thinking "Oh, my God, what did I do? How stupid could I be"

CVS in Wellington, Florida does not care if they bill medicare correctly. Two times they told me that the medications my doctor prescribed were not covered by my plan and was charged full-price for the medications. Finally, I showed them proof of their goof-up after getting a letter from Medicare stating that the medication was covered. They did refund one $100.00 over-charge. I am still waiting for CVS to call the medicare company I am enrolled in to get another $195.00 overcharge, Instead of paying just $3.63 for both prescriptions, they took almost $300.00 dollars from me. They are defrauding the seniors. They think we are stupid and won't ask questions. When the pharmacist found out i was right, she made some snide remark that I was right for once. I wonder how many thousands of seniors they have lied to in order to pad their pockets

yesterday

Reasonably quality furniture for the price. All my bookshelves come from here, and they've stood up for over twenty years and four moves.

What kills me about this place are the names. Where else can you buy a Grodung or a Pabflag and put it in your living room with a straight face?
