This was long ago and maybe Susan has gotten better at her trade since this incident, but I took a wild cat to her that was just starting to become tame because I could tell the cat had something wrong and was really tender about her tail. In Susan's desire to jam a thermometer up her bottom she grabbed the base of her tail really hard, the cat was screaming but she kept at it. It turned out the cat had a giant abscess right where she was grabbing it...she never found it and kept the cat overnight and returned to us without having a clue what was wrong. The cat ran away the next day....I can't blame her...she was traumatized and just starting to figure out how to trust humans.

Also i brought a beloved cat to her and she operated on the wrong leg....It sounds like an urban legend but alas it isn't. I'm glad there's rating places like this around to warn people of the amazing variation between veterianarians abilities. I personally like to take my animals, if they're really sick, to Conifer Colorado to this guy who does acupuncture, Dr. Gurney...he's amazing!

.About 8 years ago I started using Sunrise Kennels to board my Golden Retriever when I am away.
I met the owner, Doug at a dog show in Fort Collins, while showing my smooth collie. I have nothing but respect for Doug, and appreciation for the clean, professional kennel and grooming center he runs. They have large outdoor runs with an indoor area also, and my dogs love being taken on walks and played fetch with, which is an option - just ask when you check in. I love their grooming facility, it's hard to find a groomer who knows how to groom a golden retriever for the show ring, but at Sunrise the groomer does a wonderful job. They also offer training and classes, and they have a nice agility course.

I do personally know the Johnsons- they have been given extremely high honors in the world of Dog breeding- they are some of the most revered dog breeders in the country- They could NEVER attain that status if they showed dogs who were anything but extremely well socialized and trained and loved animals. Furthermore, their son, Colton has shown a puppy that i bred and sold to a pet home in the Springs, and has turned her into a confident show pup, and treated her with the utomost care and respect- my dogs don't do well at ALL with any kind of heavy handed training - I would recommend them as a breeder, training facility and as a handler for show dogs.

There is not one bad thing i can say about the Johnson family or their kennels. I have used many of there services and have never been disappointed. The mad employee seems to have left on bad terms and is trying any way to get back at them. Very disrespectful i think. Anyways, i would recommend them for any of the sevices they offer. You can guarantee that a family who is all about dogs and has been for many many years, know just how to take care of your pet and assure them a safe and comfortable environment. A wonderful family with two excellent kennels, Who can top that?!?!

I have purchased several older Bouviers from this wonderful family. I have seen where the dogs are kept and the conditions of these wonderful dogs, and I have to disagree. I am on my 3rd dog from them and am honored that they would even sell me a dog. They have been wonderul to help me with everything from boarding, grooming and training of my pets! I have been treated with nothing but respect from them and their staff. I do know that when I have purchased all of my older Bouviers ( from 1 year to 5 yrs) they take time to adjust, but have never been mis-treated by anymeans. Not only do I continue to use their services, but have recomended several freinds with other types of dogs and have never heard a complaint. I would srongly reccomend them and will now and forever use their services.

The owner (John) really cares about his shop and stocks standard and exotic species of fish and corals. More than any other store in the Colorado Springs area. The tanks are very clean and are all salt. He has the best advice for newbies and for experienced reef enthusiasts. Just by the number of people that I see entering his door and saying hello or shaking his hand says alot.

Pros: Wide variety of tank specimens (especially corals)

Cons: None.

I can second that. I was an employee at woodmen kennels/sunrise kennels and I can tell you that the breeding animals are kept in extremely poor conditions. The bouviers bred there have absolutely NO human contact AT ALL and the full grown breeding Old English Sheepdogs are kept in 2 foot by 2 foot metal "crates" and only allowed out for 15 minutes during my 8 hour shift. Also 90% of the staff there is mexican and dosent speak english so management has no control over what they do.You wouldnt believe some of the things ive seen these people do to peoples dogs that are boarding there.(Ive seen them torment dogs, kick at dogs, saw one once hit a dog!!) I would NOT RECCOMEND boarding your dogs or buying dogs bred from Doug Johnson or Sunrise Kennels/Woodman Kennels

See review of Woodmen Kennels (Sunrise and Woodmen Kennels are owned by the same management and on the same property as each other)

Rude, horrible people who don't care about their customers or their kennel pets. I returned a sick dog they sold to me and not one person asked what was wrong with him, what the dog's syptoms were, or how long he had been sick.. My guess, they already knew when they sold the poor neglected dog to me (at top dollar) in the first place. There is something wrong with people who treat animals in that fashion. Shame on them.
