I recently took an extended vacation, traveling well over 5000 miles with my family in our motor home. As a backyard mechanic I had done some maintenance prior to our departure. The front breaks were in need of replacing. After staying up until 1 am changing them I found out the squeaking I was hearing was coming from the back breaks. Due to me having to work the next day at the firehouse I did not have time to change them. My grandmother (who owns the motor home) took it to a local heavy duty shop to have them looked at and changed if needed. They told us that they were fine but would need new pads soon. They also said that they would not have a problem making the trip we were taking. That being said we left Terre Haute, Indiana. We made a few other stops on the way prior to arriving in El Paso. At this point we knew we had to have the breaks change due to lack of stopping power and the constant squeaking.
As we were coming into El Paso I spotted a sign for a shop that worked on motor homes. I called them telling them the problem. The told me that they don’t do break work. After calling half a dozen other shops and being turned away we finally were referred to Jays Automotive at 941 Lomaland Dr. I called and spoke directly with the owner (unknown at the time). He told me that they didn’t have any opening that day. After explaining to him we were from out of town and would be leaving soon and could not wait he squeezed me in. He was very polite and very courteous. I have never experienced that kind of hospitality especially being out of town. He also arranged for us a rental car at a discount price. They even took us to the rental shop at no cost to us and even paid our rental car for one day.
He called later after finding the problem and told us that they could not get it done that day and it would have to be finished up the next day. I told him I could not do that as the motor home was where not only I, but my grandparents, sister, wife, and 18 month old daughter would be sleeping tonight. He told me he would stay and get it done no matter how late they were there. We went to pick it up after closing hours had come and gone. Every one of his employees was very nice and professional. I half expected them to be in a foul mood being it was a Friday, but I was wrong. He even took the time to show us the parts that were bad.
When I came time to figure the bill I found his professionalism did not stop at fitting us in and staying late. The price was under what we had expected and with out us even asking he gave us a discount for being a Firefighter.
So for anyone living in or around El Paso I highly recommend Jays Automotive. If you are looking for good work, professionalism, courtesy, and a shop that is willing to go the extra mile for someone they don’t know, Jays is the only place to go.
