In most places in Latin America, the vast majority of medical treatment is administered by pharmacists. These people aren't technically doctors, but they know symptoms, and they know medicine.

This is the system in play at Portales Family Medicine. Daniel Chan is the PA, but he seems to be running the whole show here.

I've been in twice, and both times he has taken the time to explain exactly what the symptoms mean, and what they could be causing them. He doesn't seem to be in a huge rush, and he really listens to my issues.

A visit to PA Chan is quick, efficient, and educational, and you usually walk out with the prescription you need (from Dr Pierce).

Highly recommended.

Outstanding physical therapy clinic!

I've been a patient at Active Care several times, for different issues (ankle, knee, shoulder) and I've also been to other physical therapy clinics on both coasts, so I consider myself eminently qualified to give this review.

Active Care is hands-down the best physical therapy clinic I have ever experienced. The energy and culture at Active Care is more like a pro training gym than a dreary PT office. That is to say, at Active Care, the staff pushes patients to get results, and the staff is super supportive. Before I went to Active Care, I was very skeptical about physical therapy because my prior experiences had been disappointing. My view was changed completely by Active Care, they get results.

There is a reason why pro athletes, like Jerry Rice, and professional performing artists choose Active Care. When your livelihood depends on your body, you don't mess around, you go to the best, and they're at Active Care.

One final thought... I must give a special shout out and props to Colman O'Leary at Active Care. Not only is Colman an outstanding physical therapist, but he cares intensely about his patients' well-being in a way that is uncommon in my experience with medical professionals. I hope I never need physical therapy again, but if I do, I've got Colman on speed-dial.

Metropolitan is now called: ONE MEDICAL GROUP. They are the best primary care doctors in San Francisco, and offer truly unique member benefits including same-day appointments and email access to your doctor. They also accept most forms of insurance (unusual in this day and age!). Check out their website for more information: www.onemedical.md

I have the fortunate opportunity to work at the Women's Community Clinic and it is one of the most rewarding experiences. The staff is extremely friendly and genuinely interested in you as a person. The clients leave more knowledgeable about sexual reproduction issues and their own health. There are resources and outreach programs for their clients and they really are connected to the community in San Francisco. The world is a better place because of the clinicians, volunteers, employees, founders and board members who are part of The Women's Community Clinic!

I love this place. My favorite teacher is Darren. His hatha flow yoga classes on mon and wed nights are fabulous, always leaving there feeling like a left 50 pounds of stress behind. His classes are ALWAYS packed (gotta be about 40 people) and its heated to 85-90 degrees....which def gets up to 100 with all the body heat on top of it. If he notices you comign more and more to class, the more attention you will get from him. He def works your ass and pushes you to your limits. Limits you've never been before. Namaste.

I accidently had to take my Mother to this place, as her insurance didnt cover dental and I read lot about this place for a resonable price. The major complaint about this place is it atleast takes 3-4 hours just a filling, and it proved as well. We have to make an appointment in the morning and the procedure performed in the afternoon.

They either accept patients to be assigned to a Student doctor (for long term relationship) or you can take the Emergency (for one time visits) and since ours is just a simple procedure we took the Emergency.

The entire procedure (filling) with XRay and checkups costs only $74, which is almost pretty low when compared to estimates we got from other places (minimum $400).

Couple of good points about this place.

1. I have been to Western Dental and a local city dentist before, mostly they either tried to push too many things and always gave me estimates for too many things which I dont care. But here they focus only on the problem and dont shock you with estimates.

2. Dont be afraid with Student Doctors, since a chief will be always around you to confirm everthing goes right.

Everything went out pretty well atlast.

I had the chance to get my back re-adjusted twice at this place. Can't complain, the job was done the way I expected it, not too pricey at all, and the chiropractor has a great personality.

plus when you're done, you can go have a tea at the Cafe du Soleil's outside tables, it's half a block away from the clinic!

I definitely recommend it.

I have been a patient of Dr. Montalbano for the past 2 years. She has helped me tremedously with my problems throughout - carpal tunnel, sprained thumb, shoulders, knee and low back. She is really in tune with your body and always seem to find out where the problem stems from, and I don't even have to tell her! My alignment is straighter bc of her treatments, and the discomfort and tightness in my problem areas have released.

I've tried SO MANY methods and traditional chiropractic "cracking" bc of past auto accidents (rear-ended THREE TIMES in one year!), and after seeing and finding Dr. M, I honestly believe that your body CAN heal. My search has ended with Dr. M!

I brought my father in for his strained shoulders, and prior to that, he was seeing a chiropractor who "cracks" with no avail. He did massages, and that muscle stimulator machine also, nothing. After just one session, he didn't feel that sharp pain when lifting up his arm. He only came in one more time afterwards as a maintenance care.

Understand though, that if you've had a problem for awhile, and depending on the severity, you may need more than just one session. Dr. M is no miracle worker in that it may take time to find out what's going on with your body, but she is a miracle worker in that she can really fix it!

I'm happy to post glowing reviews across the internet because Dr. Shaiken has made a big fan out of me. The woman's touch is gold. Last year, I was in seriously bad shape from years of bodily neglect and abuse: lateral curvature of the spine, bone spurs in my neck, arthritis in nearly every major joint in my body... I'm 40 years old, and I was already looking for a cane to walk with because I couldn't get up the stairs to my 2nd floor apartment unassisted anymore. Dr. Shaiken saw me, took some x-rays, discussed a 6-month course of treatment with me, and then offered me a spectacular discount. Well, I jumped in, and 6 months later, I'm totally functional again, and my pain is 99.99% gone, and I expect within a few months to report that it's fully 100% gone. She's told me every step of the way what to expect, and she was right. The 6 month plan was finished last month, and I've prepaid for another few months (again, at a spectacular price) because a few long-term bodily pings and creaks that I've always assumed were just part of being human have started to lessen as well. My friends have even commented on the difference in me... for starters, I don't complain about aches and pains anymore, and they say my mood has brightened (yeah, because I'm not _hurting_ all the time.) A few weeks ago someone who didn't know I was in chiropractic even complimented my posture... that's definitely never happened before. Dr. Shaiken, thanks, I salute you.
