Buyer Beware!! Absolute FRAUD!! Owner Craig Keister is a CON MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 Star Rating: Not Recommended

08/14/2008 Posted by MandrakesIsathief

After purchasing furniture and never receiving the merchandise as purchased, screened calls, lies, personal attacks and false promises, I returned the merchandise to the store only to be assaulted by Craig Keister - the owner of Mandrakes Antiques - and forced out the door. Complaints against this merchant and its owner Craig Keister, have been filed with the Better-Business-Bureau (of which he is not even a member of the-Better-Business-Bureau and if the business was good and there was nothing to hide - why not be a member?), Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna, FTC, MasterCard and Washington State Credit Union League. Litigation is underway. Do Not EVER shop at MANDRAKES if you value not being RIPPED OFF!! Or if you do bring a LAWYER!!!!! BUYER BEWARE!!!

Pros: Buyer Beware!! Absolute FRAUD!! Owner Craig Keister is a CON MAN!!!!

Cons: Buyer Beware!! Absolute FRAUD!! Owner Craig Keister is a CON MAN!!!!

I love this shop. If you are looking for an unusual gift for someone, especially a woman, this is a great place. Nice soap, scarves, some clothing, lots of jewelry, and nice housewares and kitchen things. I love to just browse here, too, and get ideas for the holidays.

What?! I have never seen the employees there push people towards specific spaces, or even get out from behind the counter and ask if they can help with anything! Mostly they just sit behind that big counter, unless you ask for help. Whatever... not the best customer service, but I still really like the Antique Mall of West Seattle (although I always want to call it the West Seattle Antique Mall). The mall has a real mish-mash of different kinds of dealers and items. I consider it kind of a "digger" mall, because even though there are high-end antiques, mid-century stuff, and vintage collectables, there is also quite a bit of crappy new stuff (stuffed animals, ugly truckers hats, etc) mixed in. Oh well, it is all  part of the hunt. I rarely go to the basement, because it is kind of a guy's shop and I am kind of a girly-girl, so I mostly shop the main floor and upstairs.  The spot right at the top of the stairs has fun things. But the one spot at the back which is entirely vintage clothing is great. Great styles, and the prices are great too! And...the condition is good on all of it, which I can't say for a lot of the vintage clothing dealers in town. I get tired of finding holes and tears and stains on clothing with crazy prices on them. This person knows what he/she (probably she) is doing. So I keep going back and buying cute stuff. I hear there is another vintage clothing dealer up there too now. I will have to go soon and check it out. Note: the "dressing room" is actually a bathroom upstairs, and it is pretty cluttered with cleaning supplies and stuff. But hey- it is clean enough and it has a mirror, so it works. Next to the space with all the clothes, there is another space that has a ton of vintage greeting cards, and wrapping paper and they never seem to run out! I'd rather spend $2.50 on a fabulous old die-cut card with glitter, than some cheesy new one for the same price. Trouble is, sometimes they are so cute I don't want to write in them! Sometimes I just put a Post-It Note inside instead. Anyway, a person can spend a lot of time at the WS mall and find some fun things. Did I mention the prices are better (lower) overall than most of the other malls in town?

The remainder of the mall gets its 3 stars for being just average and over cluttered with nothing making sense. The sales people kept pushing me to specific spaces which I assume was theirs but when I was left to roam, I discovered the basement. I was blown away at the collection that was assembled there. Mid-Century to Mission... it was all there and at an affordable price. The weird thing is that the staff didn't even make me aware of this fact and signs only noted the third floor. Do yourself a favor and explore the basement of West Seattle Antique Mall.
