On Dec 30, 2008 we visited the blue cross Vet hospital because they advertised kittens for sale. We were looking for two kittens for our children for Christmas. After falling in love with a brother and sister, we purchased them for $70 each. They made us sign a contract only guaranteeing the health of the kittens for 3 days. Immediately upon coming home, the kittens went to the litter box and had extreme diarrhea. We had to quarantine the kittens so the bowel mess did not go around the house. Within 24 hrs, there was diarrhea everywhere. Since they were closed the next day (holiday), we came in on the next business day (wanting to stay within our contract). They were diagnosed with Coccidia and sent home with Albon to treat. We had a follow up the next Mon. and also the free or included "wellness exam" which was included in our initial price along with vaccines. The kittens seemed a little better, Dr. Vanderpool looked at them breifly and gave them vaccines and away we went. Long story short, the diarrhea was only getting worse the kittens were continously itching and scratching, and after nearly 24 days on Albon, we decided to seek a second oppinion. A local Vet reviewed the situation and found them with severe infestation of flees, ear mites and tape worms. The Vet felted so badly for us, he gave us a discount but it still cost us $150 addt'l. The Vet office stated they have never seen such unhealthy kittens and were surprised they came from a VET HOSPITAL. All these procedures should have been done prior to the sell and at the very least at the "wellness" check, where none of that was mentioned. After contacting the Blue Cross Vet Hospital to bring them up to date, we asked for a refund for the initial cost of the kittens. In the contract, it states that the health of the kittens is guaranteed for three days, the kittens weren't healthy to begin with. We never recieved our so-called "wellness check" and if my kids didn't love those darn kittens so much, I would've just brought them back. This has been an absolute nightmare, and the hospital said they will not give any credit and are not even slightly remorsefull.
The hospital is dirty and smells unclean. I never got the opportunity to view the crate or cage the kittens came from, but my guess is that it was a pig pen. I am convinced this hospital sells kittens and possibly even breeds them to sell under unhealthy conditions. When asked where the kittens came from....they never gave me an answer.
I contacted the BBB to have the situation reviewed. Do yourself a favor and don't even think about going to the Blue Cross Vet Hosp.
