I hope 1 star means terrible/horrible. I cannot recommend Austin Vision Center. Took my prescription to them for glasses from my opthamologist. Lenses Austin Vision Center filled glasses with gave me headaches and made me nauseous and I couldn't see. They told me I had to get used to this type of glasses and it was in my mind, although I have worn progressive lenses for years with no trouble previously. Went back to my doctor finally b/c I kept getting so sick whenever I tried to wear the glasses. Turns out they were not following the doctor's prescription. He wrote specific instructions for them to follow on the prescription. After 4 times of Austin Vision Center not getting it right and having to go back to my doctor each time just for him to tell me they still weren't following the prescription, I asked for my money back. They refused and I was only finally able to get them to agree to refund 1/2 of my money after I showed them my doctor's records that they had entirely changed his prescription.
Pros- they have really nice stylish designer frames at good prices for designer frames. Friendly staff, although they are all very young (except for the doctor who I never saw to help with my problem)
Cons- their optician has only "several years" experience and couldn't fill my prescription for progressives, AVC will blame you the customer for their failure. I don't care if they have a "no refunds policy" if you pay them for something and they can't give it to you b/c of their error, they should refund your money. I gave them four chances and over 2 months to get this right. They couldn't do it. I needed to get these glasses filled not just put money in their pocket.
The Austin Vision Center's optician (really just a sales person, I never saw any evidence that he was certified) with "several years" experience as their website claims did not believe my board certified opthamologist doctor/eye surgeon's opinion that they weren't following his prescription; they continued to claim there was nothing wrong with the lenses and that the doctor and his office was mistaken. YEah right.
Follow up note. Got glasses filled at a different vision center. They made them perfect and to my doctor's Rx first time. The optician there is certified with 20 years experience. No more headaches or nauseousness and I can wear them for longer than 5 minutes. Guess it wasn't me after all.
Recommend if you buy anything from AVC, just buy the frame and go somewhere else to get it filled. If you get glasses filled make sure the optician is experienced and certified. I didn't know in Texas that anyone can call themselves an optician with no licensing or certification required.
